ADSW vs HBHW Match Prediction - Oct 24, 2020

The matches are going to come thick and fast in the WBBL as the tournament utilizes every single venue fit for playing in Sydney! There have been some big changes to the teams in the off-season and that is only going to add to the excitement.

The WBBL is the best women’s T20 tournament in the world with a lot of players claiming its standard of cricket is higher than what we see at the international level.

The Adelaide Strikers are going to be opening their season against the Hobart Hurricanes. The Strikers were the runners-up in the previous season and benefited greatly from one of the great WBBL seasons for Sophie Devine. She is no longer with the team, though, and recovering that is going to be difficult.

The Hobart Hurricanes finished 7th in the previous season and have traditionally been one of the weaker teams in the WBBL. They have made a few additions to the squad for this season that will hopefully help turn things around.

Adelaide Strikers vs Hobart Hurricanes WBBL 2020 is going to be played at the Hurstville Oval, Sydney on the 25th of October 2020.

ADSW vs HBHW Team Previews

Adelaide Strikers Women

The Adelaide Strikers are going to be without their talisman as Sophie Devine has left the organization. She scored 769 runs and took 19 wickets in the previous season. That is not going to be easy to replace. In fact, we don’t think the Strikers should try and replace Devine because that is not going to happen.

They should, instead, try to build a different kind of team without her.

The Strikers have added Laura Wolvaardt to the team and she is going to open the batting. The talented South African has a reputation for being a hard-hitter at the top of the order and we think she could make a big impact in this WBBL edition.

They also have Suzie Bates, Tahlia McGrath, Stafanie Taylor, and Bridget Patterson to bolster the batting. That is a very decent lineup especially if Wolvaardt and Taylor can find form early.

Megan Schutt is going to lead the bowling attack once again and there are plenty of other useful all-rounders to chip in with the ball as required.

Yes, the Adelaide Strikers are weaker without Sophie Devine but then every team would be. The Strikers are not, however, a weak team.

Hobart Hurricanes Women

It has been a difficult few seasons for the Hobart Hurricanes as they have struggled to find any kind of consistency in their cricket. The Hurricanes start out full of energy but quickly recede into the background where they are content with the odd upset win.

They have added Rachel Priest, Naomi Stalenberg, and Erica Kershaw from other WBBL franchises to bolster their own squad this season.

We don’t really think the Hobart Hurricanes are much stronger than what they were in the previous season. The batting is going to have to revolve around Hayley Matthews, Rachel Priest, and Nicola Carey.

These are experienced players that offer a lot of utility but we don’t think they are enough to carry an entire side on their own. Tayla Vlaeminck continues to struggle with injuries and is not going to be available to the Hurricanes this season.

That is a massive loss and puts a lot of pressure on Chloe Tyron to carry the bowling attack.

The Hurricanes are weaker than the Strikers in almost every conceivable way.

ADSW vs HBHW Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. We don’t think the pitch is going to change too much from one inning to another. If anything it may get a bit slower and more difficult to score on.

Pitch and Conditions

The ground at Hurstville is pretty small and a lot of boundaries should be hit there. The pitch is always on the slower side at this venue, however, the fast outfield helps balance out things. We think a score of around 140 is par for this venue.

The spinners are not going to get too much help to start out with although that may change as the tournament progresses.

ADSW vs HBHW Betting Tips

We have no hesitation in backing the Adelaide Strikers for the win in this match. They have a better batting lineup, an effective T20 bowling lineup led by Australia’s best bowler, and a team that is used to winning.

They are going to be tough to beat even without Sophie Devine although some of the other players will really need to step up.

Bet on the Adelaide Strikers to win.
