Women's Big Bash League started with a bang as Sydney Sixers thumped Sydney Thunder in the opening match of the tournament. With two points and a terrific net run-rate, the Sixers look settled at the top of the table. Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades both will be looking to get the same thing going when they take on each other in the next match of the tournament, the game which is to be played at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide on 19th October. While this is a long tournament and the teams can catch-up despite a poor start, both the sides will be looking to put two points on the board early in the competition.
The Strikers Women have a reasonably good side on paper with the likes of Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine Available at their disposal. Devine and Bates were the top two scorers for them in the last edition of the tournament and will be looking for a similar sort of performance this time around as well.
While their batting looks good on paper, it's their bowling that has the potential to win them matches in close situations, the likes of Megan Schutt, Stafanie Taylor, and Lauren Winfield all can be match-winners on their day, and the opponents will not have an easy time facing them.
All in all, the Strikers have a pretty well-balanced unit with firepower available in their batting order and a balanced bowling attack. Beating them is not going to be easy for the Renegades in the upcoming fixture.
Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, T McGrath, Stafanie Taylor, B Patterson, Katie Mack, T McPharlin, Amanda Wellington, S Coyte, A Price, Megan Schutt.
Just like the Strikers, Renegades too are brimming with talented top-order with a couple of English stars available at their disposal. Tammy Beaumont and Danielle Wyatt have done extremely well for England in recent years and will be key to Renegades' performance.
Apart from the two English Stars, there do not appear to be much substance available in their batting lineup. They lack experience in their middle-order and may find it difficult should they lose a couple of quick wickets. However, with a strong bowling attack consisting of Molly Strano, Lea Tahuhu, and Georgia Wareham, they can easily restrict any opponent to a modest total.
Tammy Beaumont, Maitlan Brown, Josie Dooley, Jess Duffin, Claire Koski, Sophie Molineux, Molly Strano, Lea Tahuhu, Georgia Wareham, Courtney Webb, Danielle Wyatt.
The composition of the two sides is almost similar, at least on paper. Both sides have a strong top-order with a wafer-thin middle order. The experience could play a vital role in the upcoming fixture and comparing the two teams on expertise; the Renegades appear to be slightly ahead. Having said that, Adelaide Strikers have a better-balanced side, and with the reward of 167 on a bet of 100, they are our pick to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
