ADSW vs MLRW Match Prediction - Oct 24, 2022

Here we’ve got two teams seemingly going in different directions: The Strikers had two tough losses but have turned things around with a big win, while the Renegades started the season with a victory but have lost two in a row.

There’s a lot to like about both squads and several key players could swing the match in either team’s favour. What’s interesting to note is that the Renegades’ only win of the year came when defeating the Strikers, so this is a particularly intriguing matchup.

ADSW vs MLRW Team Previews

Adelaide Strikers Women

Despite a gutsy effort from the Sixers and Erin Burns’ 71 runs, the Strikers held on to a 142 total to defeat Sydney in a thrilling game.

The Strikers set the tone early with solid scores from Mack (20), Wolvaardt (23), and McGrath (18), but it really wasn’t until Madeline Penna appeared in the lower order that the runs started flowing. Known more for her reliable spin bowling, Penna knocked up 39 runs from 25 deliveries to help set a tough target for the Sixers.

The Sixers very nearly won, but some fantastic bowling stats from Darcie Brown (3/17, ER: 4.25) and Jemma Barsby (3/32, ER: 8.00) meant that the Strikers held on by three runs.

Although the batting was decent for Adelaide, it’s safe to say that the bowlers really won it for the Strikers, although Deandra Dottin had a game to forget by bowling 0/32 from three overs (ER: 10.66).

A great combo of Brown’s fast bowling and Barsby’s spin bowling is just what this team needs to continue piling up the wins.

Deandra Dottin, Katie Mack, Laura Wolvaardt, T McGrath, B Patterson, Maddie Penna, Amanda Wellington, T McPharlin, Jemma Barsby, Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown.

Melbourne Renegades Women

The Melbourne Renegades can’t feel too bad about dropping a game to the Brisbane Heat, as despite losing by 26 runs, it was a solid effort overall from Josephine Dooley (40 runs) and Courtney Webb (47 runs).

The Heat are no pushover and these are good lessons to take into the next match against the Strikers.

If the Renegades want to keep winning, then they’ll need much more from the top-order batters, captain Sophie Molineux and Hayley Matthews. Molineux, especially, has scored just eight runs overall in the Renegades’ last two matches. She hasn’t been impressive with the ball, either, posting just 1/68 in the last two. Whether this is just a career slump or something to keep an eye on, it’s hard to tell, but the Renegades won’t win many games with this form from their captain.

The good news for Renegades fans is that the team announced the signing of Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu for the rest of the WBBL season. This couldn’t come at a better time, as she’s a fantastic allrounder that will instantly boost the squad’s chances in matches.

Pitch and Conditions

The Karen Rolton Oval is becoming well known as a batters’ pitch because there’s rarely much bounce or turn. The outfield can be lightning-quick, too, so expect a lot of fours.

ADSW vs MLRW Betting Tips

If we’re going on recent form, then this looks like a better matchup for the Strikers. They proved that they can handle tough situations and hold their nerve for a strong victory, and the top-order batters can all be depended on for runs around 20-30.

Plus, the bowling attack is only getting stronger. With Chamari Athapaththu joining the Renegades, the team has an improved outlook for the season, but the inclusion feels too early to be of real value against a surging team like the Strikers.

Bet on the Adelaide Strikers to win.
