These are still early days in the Women's Big Bash Leauge, but the line of distinction is gradually beginning to appear in the points table. With two wins each, Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers are leading the points table. Perth Scorchers had a good opportunity to register a win in their last game, but the rain kept them from registering a win over Adelaide Strikers. The Strikers, on the other hand, will consider themselves lucky as they managed to get away with one point in that game. The Strikers desperately want to get back to the winning ways and a win here will be of significant importance. They are now set to meet Melbourne Stars in the upcoming WBBL match, which is to be played on 3rd November 2020 at Blacktown International Sportspark, Sydney.
Adelaide Strikers got off to a flying start to the tournament, winning their first match over Hobart Hurricanes, but have looked only a shadow of themselves over since. While rain has kept them from getting a result in two of their matches, they haven't really performed up to their potential in the remaining contests. As it stands now, Adelaide Strikers are currently on the sixth spot with three points to their name. Besides, their net run-rate of -0.479 isn't particularly good and can come back to haunt them in the back end of the tournament.
Their batting, which looked terrific before the tournament started, at least on paper, hasn't really stepped up until now. Laura Wolvaardt did well against the Hurricanes but has since then been pretty quiet. Against the Scorchers as well, only Stafanie Taylor was able to assert some pressure on the opposition's bowlers as the Strikers managed to put a total of just 70 runs on the board. For the Strikers to do well, a lot depends on their top-order, which is full of experienced players. It's only a matter of time before they join the party, but the management will want the part to start as soon as possible.
It's been a pretty similar story for the Strikers with the ball as well. They were terrific against the Hurricanes and we haven't seen even one dominating performance from their bowlers. Though the likes of Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown, and Sarah Coyte have done well, they have lacked consistency.
All in all, Adelaide Strikers have a pretty good unit, but failing to perform in unison is hurting them. They appear to be lacking confidence and rhythm and one good game might just put them back on the winning path. On paper, they have plenty of match-winners available, and beating them isn't going to be easy.
T McGrath, Katie Mack, Laura Wolvaardt, B Patterson, Stafanie Taylor, Amanda Wellington, Maddie Penna, T McPharlin, S Coyte, Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown.
While Melbourne Stars too have suffered from rains, they are placed a lot higher in the points table than Adelaide Strikers. That is largely because the Stars haven't suffered a defeat yet. After experienced a string of three consecutive no-results, Melbourne Stars experienced the stroke of fortune they were looking for as they cruised past Hobart Hurricanes in their only completed encounter. Consequently, the Stars moved to the third spot on the points table and will be looking to take the top spot with a win over Adelaide Strikers.
While Melbourne Stars' stronger suit is their batting, it was all about their bowling when they defeated Hobart Hurricanes in their most recent encounter. After Meg Lanning chose to field after winning the toss, Katherine Brunt and Natalie Sciver pushed Hurricanes on the back foot as they picked up wickets at regular intervals. Eventually, they ended up with three wickets each and were ably supported by Tess Flintoff who chipped in with a couple of wickets.
Needing to chase a total of 90 runs, the Stars never looked in trouble and chased the total down with more than eight overs and eight wickets to spare. Along with brief cameos from Meg Lanning, Mignon du Preez, and Natalie Sciver, Elyse Villani got her team past the required total with considerable ease. She returned unbeaten with a score of 51 off 32 balls.
On paper, Melbourne Stars have a perfectly balanced side. They have match-winners available right throughout, be it in bowling or in batting. The experience of Meg Lanning can come in handy when dealing with crunch situations. Overall, the Stars have an excellent unit and could be the team to beat this year.
Meg Lanning, Elyse Villani, Mignon du Preez, Natalie Sciver, Annabel Sutherland, Erin Osborne, Tess Flintoff, Nicole Faltum, Sophie Day, Katherine Brunt, Alana King.

While the two teams have similar strengths on paper, they have a lot of daylight in between them as far as the points table is concerned. Melbourne Stars haven't really had enough chances to get out on the field and have some match practice. Having said that, they didn't look rusty in the first match and should only improve in the upcoming match. Adelaide Strikers, on the other hand, seem to be going down the spiral with every passing match. They were probably saved by rain in the previous match and will need their players to be at their very best in the upcoming encounter. Considering all those factors, betting on a Melbourne Stars' win should be the way to go in the upcoming encounter.
