These are early days in the Women's Big Bash League, but points on the board are still of massive importance. That is exactly what Thunder showcased by their relentless play in their recent match against Adelaide Strikers. The Strikers now find themselves in a spot of bother despite getting off to an excellent start in the tournament. They'll be looking to get back to the winning ways in their upcoming match, in which they face Perth Scorchers. The match is to be played at Drummoyne Oval, Sydney, on 1st November 2020.
With their recent defeat to Sydney Thunder, Adelaide Strikers dropped to the fifth spot on the points table. They had a terrific start to the tournament as they defeated Hobart Hurricanes, but with back to back defeats, they now find themselves struggling. The upcoming match carries massive importance for them, but with the form the Scorchers have been in, the Strikers will have to play to their potential.
Against the Thunder, Strikers' vulnerabilities with the ball were rendered wide open as Heather Knight and Rachel Haynes smashed the Strikers' bowlers to all parts of the ground in their 122-run partnership. While the Strikers managed to pick up six wickets, they failed to contain the Thunder and eventually had a colossal total of 190 runs to chase. Even though Sarah Coyte picked up 3 wickets to stifle the Thunder, those wickets came too little too late. Megan Schutt, Darcie Brown, and Sarah Coyte bowled well, but the other bowlers were way to expensive to trouble Sydney Thunder.
It was always going to be an imposing total for the Strikers despite their batting lineup and it didn't prove to be any different. Their reply never got off the ground as the asking rate swelled with every passing over. Barring Tahlia Mcgrath, who scored 46 off 37, none of the Strikers' batsmen looked in control. The Strikers eventually finished with a total of 132, losing the match by 58 runs.

Perth Scorchers once again found themselves involved in a rain-curtained fixture, but this time on the right side of the result. The two points pushed them to the fourth spot on the ladder with three points in as many games. Another win here will likely push them to the top of the table provided other results go their way and that is what the Scorchers will be aiming for in this contest.
While the scoreboard says that the Scorchers won the match by ten wickets, it was actually their bowling that made all the difference. Sophie Devine and Nicole Bolton were terrific with the ball as they picked up the early wickets to suffocate the Renegades batting unit. Almost all of the Scorchers' bowlers bowled in tight channels as they together kept Renegades to a total of just 105 runs. Nicole Bolton was the pick of the bowlers for the Scorchers as she picked up two important wickets for just 13 runs in her four overs. She was ably assisted by Sophie Devine and Taneale Peschel who both picked up a wicket each.
Chasing a modest total was never going to present any problems whatsoever for the Scorchers. Sophie Devine and Ben Mooney were scarcely troubled as they put together a match-winning 61-run partnership before the rain forced the two teams out of the field. With 62 runs on the board without any loss, the Scorchers were 18 runs ahead of the total they needed to be as per the DLS method and, therefore, won the match. Sophie Devine scored 31 and Beth Mooney added 28 runs to the unbeaten partnership for the first wicket.

There isn't a lot of difference between the position of the two teams on the points table and as these are early days in the tournament, a lot can change pretty quickly. Both sides will want to get an early advantage by accumulating as many points as possible. This is an important match for both sides and they both are expected to come out all guns blazing. Considering the recent results and the on-paper combination of the two sides, Perth Scorchers appear to be better placed to emerge on top in this upcoming fixture.
