ADSW vs SYTW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Dec 15, 2018

The WBBL is throwing up some very interesting contests this year as teams seem to be closer than ever. This match WBBL match between the Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder is expected to be a close one as well. There are some excellent batters in both sides as well as some players that are capable of clearing the ropes.

Adelaide Strikers have three points from three matches thanks to one win and a washout they suffered in their last match. Sydney Thunder, on the other hand, has two victories from its three matches and has looked like a very competent unit so far.

In fact, the only match that Sydney Thunder lost was against a very strong Sydney Sixers side, but the batters did not discredit themselves in that contest either.

ADSW vs SYTW Team Previews

Adelaide Strikers Women

The Adelaide Strikers have been on the receiving end of a heartbreaking loss against the Melbourne Renegades and so would have been very disappointed to have been denied a chance to return the favor in their next meeting.

The Adelaide Strikers are a good side thanks to the presence of a strong top-3. Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates, and Tahlia McGrath are very good batters with the potential to play long innings. In the case of Devine and Bates, there is plenty of international experience and success in the opening role at the highest level.

There is something about the manner in which both Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates have played that makes it look they have been relieved to be free of the pressure that playing in the Women’s WorldT20 put on them.

They are playing with freedom and making the opponents pay. Devine with 141 runs to her name in just three matches is leading the way while Bates, McPharlin, McGrath, and Patterson have also contributed with the bat.

Megan Schutt is the clear leader of the bowling attack. She has bowled 10 overs in the competition so far, picked three wickets and is giving away runs at just 6.70 runs per over. She needs some more support from players like McGrath, Devine, and Price because Sydney Thunder has a strong batting lineup that will pounce on anyone having a bad day.

The Adelaide Strikers will want to play a full match against a strong opponent and really get their WBBL campaign going which seems to be stuck in first gear.

Sydney Thunder Women

The addition of Harmanpreet Kaur has made a huge difference to the Sydney Thunder batting lineup. The captain of the Indian T20 side has scored 101 runs in two innings including 6 sixes. That's easily more than anyone else in her side with only Priest having two sixes to her name.

The impact that Harmanpreet Kaur has on a batting lineup can be immense and that is why it was very encouraging to see her bat at number three for Thunder. She needs to be given the maximum possible chance to play a long inning and possibly win the match there itself.

With very talented batters like Haynes, Priest, and Blackwell in the side as well, Sydney Thunder is a formidable force with the bat. We like the look of Haynes at the top of the order and think she is very close to playing a match-winning inning sooner rather than later.

The problem for Sydney Thunder has been in finding a steady set of bowlers. There are plenty of players in the side that can roll their arm over but the few standout bowlers seem to be missing from the playing eleven.

Bates went for 49 runs in the last match and even though she took two wickets, it was a performance she would like to forget. Farell and Vakarewa just bowled one over each, and it was down to Taylor, Gibson, and Harmanpreet to bowl the remainder of the overs.

Three wickets for Taylor and Gibson each will be encouraging but maybe asking Taylor to bowl up front could help give the side a better-balanced attack.

Sydney Thunder Women Playing 11

Alex Blackwell, Sam Bates, Nicola Carey, Rene Farrell, Maisy Gibson, Harmanpreet Kaur, Lisa Griffith, Rachel Priest, Naomi Stalenberg, Stafanie Taylor, Belinda Vakarewa.

Pitch and Conditions

This WBBL match between the Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder is going to be played at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart. The weather forecast for the match is not the greatest as some rain is predicted for the majority of the day.

We can hope that the rain misses the Oval but that an interrupted match or maybe even a washout is a distinct possibility.

ADSW vs SYTW Betting Tips

Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder both have a strong top order. The bowling lineup for both sides is missing depth, as is the case for most WBBL sides. We think current form of a leading player is more important to consider than any other factor.

Back Sydney Thunder to win.
