The Adelaide Strikers women have two matches in two days coming up. Both of them are against teams that are struggling at the moment and so it could be an excellent chance for the Strikers to lock up the second qualification spot in WBBL 05.
This match, against Sydney Thunder, is going to be played at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart barely twelve hours after completing their previous match against the Hobart Hurricanes I may have some impact on their performances.
Sydney Thunder would be hoping that this is the time to end a prolonged losing streak which has seen it lose the last five matches in succession. With the race for the playoff spots becoming closer than ever, this game is very important for both teams.
Adelaide Strikers Women vs Sydney Thunder Women WBBL 05 is going to be played at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart on the 24th of November 2019.
Seven wins from ten matches have put the Adelaide Strikers in a very strong position heading into this important weekend. One or two wins in their next couple of matches could lock up that qualification place for good.
The Strikers are in terrific form and have won their last three matches. This is exactly the sort of momentum they need heading into the final third of the group matches. Interestingly, their most recent victory at the time of this writing was also against Sydney Thunder.
That was a match where Sydney Thunder was restricted to 112, a below-par total, and then Sophie Devine led the chase with 62 not out at the top of the order.
Devine has been in brilliant touch and is easily one of the players of the tournament so far. She likes playing against Sydney Thunder and there is nothing to say that she is not going to punish them again.
Suzie Bates, Tahlia McGrath, Bridget Patterson, and Lauren Winfield are all decent batters giving the Adelaide Strikers a nice lineup.
The bowling is going to be led by Megan Schutt, Sophie Devine, Tahlia McGrath, Sarah Coyte, and Amanda Wellington. Megan Schutt has been the pick of the bowlers in recent matches although Sarah Coyte has perhaps been the find of the tournament for the Adelaide Strikers women with consistent bowling performances from the start.
Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, T McGrath, B Patterson, Lauren Winfield, Katie Mack, T McPharlin, Amanda Wellington, S Coyte, A Price, Megan Schutt.
A brilliant start to WBBL 05 is going up in smoke as the Sydney Thunder train derails at an alarming rate. A sudden loss of form for Rachael Priest, Alex Blackwell, and Rachel Haynes has meant that Sydney Thunder has been struggling for runs recently.
For a side that has some very good players and fantastic batting depth, this is odd and the prolonged nature of this slump is concerning. Nida Dar, Tahlia Wilson, and Phoebe Litchfield are all good batters too but it seems there is some mental block that is preventing Sydney Thunder from achieving its best.
Some changes in the batting order and maybe some new strategies are what are required to change things around.
The bowling unit has Shabnim Ismail, Samantha Bates, Hannah Darlington, and Nida Dar in it with some more all-rounders contributing as necessary. This is again an area where Sydney Thunder is quite blessed to have some solid players in its squad.
Shabnim Ismail and Nida Dar are the two bowlers we think could make the difference for Sydney Thunder in this match.
Rachel Priest, Alex Blackwell, Naomi Stalenberg, Rachael Haynes, Phoebe Litchfield, Nida Dar, Hannah Darlington, Shabnim Ismail, Sam Bates, Rachel Trenaman, Lisa Griffith.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first

There has been some rain around in Hobart but the forecast for this match is quite good. We should have clear skies and sun throughout the day. The pitch at the Bellerive Oval can be expected to be good for batting.
The outfield is quick and also one of the smaller ones on the circuit. There is always some pace in the wicket which makes for exciting cricket all around.
We think this is a good time to back the upset and get behind Sydney Thunder. They have the players in the team and we don’t think their prolonged slump is going to last too much longer. On paper, Sydney Thunder has the batting and the bowling to win this match especially if they can get Sophie Devine out early.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
