Afghanistan lost its match against England and then got a point courtesy the rain in Melbourne. For Afghanistan, this is one of the matches that it would really believe it can win. It has won 16 out of the 23 matches it has played against Ireland so far and traditionally, its spinners have done the most damage.

Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi are going to be a real handful for Ireland to handle even though Melbourne has been a lot more pace-friendly so far. Fareed Ahmad and Fazalhaq Farooqi have been quite good also showing that Afghanistan has a nice well-rounded bowling attack.

The biggest concern for Afghanistan will be its batting. Ibrahim Zadran is the one batter that is capable of scoring runs on bouncy surfaces and Rahmanullah Gurbaz can also throw his bat around. The rest of the batting is not very dependable. Getting enough runs could continue to be a problem for this Afghanistan team.

Ireland has been very impressive in the T20 World Cup so far. It started off with a loss to Zimbabwe but has since shown a lot of intent, aggression, and smart tactics. The win against England may have been DLS assisted but it was well-deserved.

Ireland had dominated England's bowling and then bowled much better.

Now, Ireland is going to face a lot more high-quality spin, and how they approach that is going to determine where they end up in this match. Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie, and Lorcan Tucker have all been in good touch. They have taken the game to the bowlers and struck form at the right time.

Balbirnie is perhaps the best player of spin in this lineup alongside Harry Tector but the latter has not been able to get any sort of momentum. Don't underestimate the roll of Campher and Dockrell down the order as they may well be required to bat quite a bit.

Ireland will believe it can crack this game open with its bowling. Joshua Little, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, and Fionn Hand were impressive on a helpful surface in Melbourne against England. That knowledge could come in very handy in this match.

Pitch and Conditions

There is rain predicted in Melbourne but the forecast is not as bad as what we saw when Afghanistan was scheduled to play against New Zealand. The pitch is fresh and there is a decent amount of grass on the surface. This has meant more pace and bounce in Melbourne than we usually get to see.
