Two teams that promised much but ended up delivering very little at the ICC World Cup 2019 were Afghanistan and West Indies. There were a number of experts that thought that the two teams could pull off some upsets and make the event a memorable one.
That did not happen and their fans at home were quite disappointed. This is why both teams have decided to shake things up as per their squad choices and are looking to reboot their ODI sides beginning with this series.
Afghanistan is not a side to be taken lightly as the West Indies will be well aware of. The challenge of beating them becomes even tougher now that the match is going to be played in India, conditions where the Afghan spinners will be a handful.
Afghanistan vs West Indies 1st ODI 2019 is going to be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on the 6th of November 2019.
Rashid Khan led his side to a brilliant test victory over Bangladesh and would be feeling much more comfortable with the mantle of captaincy on his head. We don’t think he is a natural leader or a master strategist, though, and this is why he will require strong support from his coaching staff to help make the right decisions.
Rashid Khan is going to be aware of his side’s batting frailties that have affected their chances of winning matches in the recent past. Players like Rahmat Shah, Javed Ahmadi, Asghar Afghan, Mohammad Nabi, and Najibullah Zadran have been around for quite some time now.
They have enough experience to be aware of what is expected of them in 50 over cricket. Rahmat Shah and Asghar Afghan are the players that we look towards the most in 50 over cricket since they seem to have the necessary temperament to succeed.
Mohammad Nabi’s batting is undergoing a resurgence but he seems to prefer the shortest format of the game.
Ikram Ali Khil, the wicketkeeper-batsman, has also played a few attractive innings and will be an important part of the batting lineup.
Hazratullah Zazai is ultra-aggressive at the top of the order but he must mix that aggression with some sport of a gameplan to succeed more consistently in 50 over cricket. Otherwise, he is going to be a liability to the side.
The Afghan batting is quite unpredictable but its bowling is in a much better state. Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi are three very good spinners that are a part of the bowling attack. Any help from the surface will make them difficult to face and put all the pressure on the West indies.
Gulbadin Naib and Yamin Ahmadzai appear to be the two likely seam bowling options in the side to start the series with.
Hazratullah Zazai, MJ Ahmadi, R Shah, Ikram Ali Khil, Asghar Afghan, N Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq.
Kieron Pollard is making a comeback to the ODI side after a lengthy gap and has also been named as the captain. This is a massive turnaround from the West Indian selectors that were wary of picking him in the squad at all for the last couple of years.
Pollard has shown some remarkable improvement in his batting and is currently one of the most dangerous players in 20 over cricket. How he makes the adjustment to the longer format of the game is going to be interesting to see because his current international record is quite underwhelming.
There are a number of new places in the side for Pollard to work with as well as some experienced ones.
Brandon King, Hayden Walsh, and Romario Shepherd have been given a chance to stake their claim in white ball cricket for the West Indies. All three of them will be high in confidence after a magnificent CPL 2019. Brandon King was the tournament’s highest scorer, Walsh the highest wicket-taker, and Shepherd impressed with his all-round skills.
Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Evin Lewis, and Sunil Ambris are the other batters in the side. Sunil Ambris looks likely to make way for new blood at this point in time.
Roston Chase, Jason Holder, and Keemo Paul will be fighting for the all-rounder's slot alongside Kieron Pollard.
Khary Pierre, Sheldon Cotrell, and Alzarri Joseph are the regular bowlers in the side that should find a place in the starting eleven.
There are a lot of options available for Kieron Pollard ahead of this series. He can choose to stay with some of the old guard or make a clean break. Either way, this is a squad that is rich with batting talent, has a deep batting lineup, and some exciting bowlers to look forward to as well.
It is all about the players coming together as a team and performing now.
Evin Lewis, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder, Roston Chase, Sheldon Cottrell, Romario Shepherd, Hayden Walsh, Alzarri Joseph.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first since the pitch is only going to get slower as the match progresses and that makes batting more difficult.

P and C
A partly cloudy day with no chance of rain has been forecast for match day in Lucknow. This will be the first international ODI being played at the venue. The West Indies were involved in the only T20 that has been played here, a match that they ended up losing quite easily.
The pitch is a bit of an unknown but with a lot of matches set to be played here in a relatively short duration of time, the surface is likely to be flat to start out with. A bit of spin and subcontinental pace off the wicket can be expected, which is pretty much par for this region.
Dream11 Team and Dream11 Prediction for Afghanistan vs West Indies 1st ODI has to account for a few unknowns at the moment. It is difficult to know in what direction the West Indies side goes as per its selection policies under Kieron Pollard. The surface itself is also a bit of a mystery since just one match has been played here in the past. This is why it is advised to listen to the pre-match pitch report and the team selection with interest.

Afghanistan is a handful in helpful conditions and has a good record against the West Indies as well. It leads the West Indies 3-2 after 6 ODI matches (one match was rained out). It has also won two out of the three most recent matches against West Indies.
However, we think this is a West Indies side that is moving upward. There is more depth in the batting than Afghanistan and the bowling is pretty useful as well. Afghanistan’s spinners are going to be a handful but the West Indian batsmen should be able to combat that.
