AFG vs WI Match Prediction - Nov 14, 2019

Afghanistan has been demolished by the West Indies 3-0 in the ODI series and they just have a couple of days to reassess before the T20 leg of the tour begins. The shortest format of the game has been the preferred format for both the teams competing in this series.

Afghanistan will be hoping that a return to T20 cricket can give it the chance to register its first win while the West Indies will be confident of building on their success so far. While this series is being played in India, Afghanistan is the host nation and would want to avoid a repeat of the ODI results.

The T20 World Cup is also nearing and teams will be looking at every single T20 match as a stepping stone towards it.

Afghanistan vs West Indies 1st T20 2019 is going to be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on the 14th of November 2019.

AFG vs WI Team Previews

Afghanistan

Afghanistan played better in the third ODI than it had in this entire series so far. Even though the result ended up going against it, Afghanistan will gain some confidence from that match. There is not too much of a difference between the ODI squad and the T20 squad for Afghanistan so the success of one format carries on to the other.

Fifty-plus scores from Hazratullah Zazai, Mohammad Nabi, and Asghar Afghan are good signs for the batting lineup. The move to the shortest also helps Afghanistan because its batsmen don’t have to worry about setting up big innings. They can just go out and play aggressive cricket and all it takes is one batsman to come off on the day to get the side to a competitive total.

We expect to see Mohammad Nabi move up the order in this format since that has been his preferred mode in T20 leagues around the world.

The biggest weakness that Afghanistan suffered from was a lack of runs and that is going to minimize during the T20 series.

It's bowling also becomes more dangerous since the West Indies batsmen will have no option but to attack Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi without taking too much time to get set.

Sharafuddin Ashraf did reasonably well during the ODI’s he played and could get a run in the T20’s as well leaving one spot up for grabs in the bowling lineup.

Afghanistan Playing 11

Asghar Afghan, Hazratullah Zazai, Ibrahim Zadran, N Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad.

West Indies

A lot of importance is being given the Caribbean Premier League during the selection of the West Indies national team, as it should, and this is why the best performers from CPL 2019 are all in the squad for this series.

A couple of them, like Lendl Simmons, Fabian Allen, and Sherfane Rutherford were not in the ODI squad and may take a bit of time to get used to the conditions. Overall, though, most of this West Indian squad has played so much IPL cricket that it would have more experience of the conditions than the Afghans playing as the host nation!

Evin Lewis, Brandon King, Shimron Hetmyer, Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Denesh Ramdin, Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Hayden Walsh, Alzarri Joseph, and Sheldon Cottrell are likely to be the players to feature for the West Indies in the first T20.

This is a strong squad and will actually mean leaving some very talented players on the bench. Lendl Simmons, Sherfane Rutherford, Khary Pierre, and Kesrick Williams can all easily find a place in this playing eleven.

This depth in the squad is a very good sign for West Indian cricket since it will ensure that the players are always on their toes.

The challenge for the West Indies is going to be to pick its best combination according to the surface as well as what they see in the nets.

We like the batting depth of the West Indian side as well as the number of power hitters available The bowling has already had a lot of success against Afghanistan and can be expected to continue to do so.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather in Lucknow has been very good for cricket and that is not going to change in the coming weeks. We also expect to see a much larger crowd come in for the T20 matches considering how popular players from both teams are in India.

The pitch at Lucknow has been a bit slow but overall good for batting. Batsmen have been able to get more fluent on its as the matches have progressed so we can hopefully expect some high-scoring matches in the T20’s as well.

A score of around 170 must be seen as par for this venue.

AFG vs WI Betting Tips

Afghanistan is going to be a lot more competitive in the T20’s than it was in the ODI’s. There is, however, a tiredness that is beginning to appear in its squad. The same mistakes match after match and not enough players pushing for places are causing a drop in quality. Afghanistan can easily pull off an upset but we will continue to back the West Indies for now.

Bet on the West Indies to win.
