About the Match
This is the last league match for the Antigua Hawksbills and T&T Red Steel, when they meet on 9th Aug at St. Kitts and both teams have nothing much to lose as the Hawksbills are out of the competition while Red Steel have reserved their berth in the semifinals. Even if the devastating loss suffered by Red Steel in the hands of the Tridents on 7th is a beating to their pride, Red Steel is a formidable force to reckon with for a team like Hawksbills, which does not have any quality to enhance its performance and register its first win in the tournament. In the earlier encounter between the two, Red Steel successfully chased the target of 151 for 8 winning by a huge margin of 9 wickets and 17 balls to spare.
They do not have a strategy in place for any match and they continue to play without any determination to succeed. If we look at the way they lost to Zouks on 3rd, wherein put into bat, they could score only 103, in spite of having strong batting talents like Hyatt, Samuels, Brathwaite and Hussey, they seem to have no mindset to stay at the wicket with a changed approach. Their highest score was against Amazon Warriors while chasing a gigantic 212; Samuels hit a century with 10 fours and 8 sixes, Peter scored 67 off 45 balls but all in vain as they fell short by 19 runs. Their bowling lacks punch, as they allow the top order of the opponents to bat freely; they cannot expect to win if they cannot push the opponent to the wall, after succeeding to make a dent on the top. The pathetic way of their batting against Zouks is a proof of their approach, where they showed little application in containing even an ordinary attack. Laughlin, Hogg, Cottrell and Tonge are not able to make any impact on any of the teams and they are also not learning any better to improve.
Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel
It was no doubt that they would win handsomely against the Hawkbills when they met earlier on 20th July chasing 151, losing only 1 wicket and 17 balls to spare, but the latest loss against Tridents by a large margin of 69 runs came as a shock and does not enhance their reputation to perform well in the higher levels of the tournament. None of the bowlers exerted to contain the Tridents in setting a sizeable target after putting them to bat first; having failed in bowling their batsmen did not plan the chase but kept losing wickets regularly against the disciplined bowling of Holder, Badree, Narine and Emrit. Except for the defensive batting by Pooran, none tried to dig and stay at the wicket to accomplish a win, though it did not matter in terms of qualification for the semifinal. This is the last league match for the team and they will do well to win it with a sizeable margin so as to go with a positive approach to the next level; they surely have the talent but need determination and the will to sustain.
This being their last chance at redemption, Hawksbills might come out all guns blazing here; however, Red Steel is clearly the favored one to win the match and will not make it easy for the opposition.
