AUS vs NZ Match Prediction - Oct 22, 2022

The 2021 T20 World Cup Final rematch has arrived!

Australia is the current champion of last year’s tournament, and you can bet everything that New Zealand is eager to get revenge.

Both teams have been a bit up and down with regards to their latest T20I records, but each side is sending out some of their country’s best players for the T20 World Cup.

This will be each squad’s first official match of the T20 World Cup in 2022, although both Oz and NZ have been playing several games prior to prepare for the renowned tournament.

AUS vs NZ Team Previews

Australia

It’s quite the squad that Australia is sending to the T20 World Cup, and what an advantage to have every game played in the home country.

Reports are trickling in that batter Steve Smith will be left out of the starting XI against New Zealand, but we’re nevertheless bound to see captain Aaron Finch, heavy-hitter David Warner, up-and-comer Mitchell Marsh, and of course star bowlers like Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, and Mitchell Starc.

Of all the names in the squad, we’re highly excited to see what newbie Tim David can provide for the batting. His T20I records are respectable, having hit 156 runs in seven innings so far, including a high score of 54. We believe David is capable of real damage in the middle order and he’s just the right guy to knock a few fours and sixes when they are most needed.

Australia will still need to rely mostly on David Warner if they are to have any chance of a win. In his last 14 innings, Warner has picked up 585 runs and remains one of the most reliable batsmen at the crease. His experience and talent for the team are invaluable and we can’t wait to see how he fares in this current tournament.

Australia Playing 11

David Warner, Aaron Finch, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

New Zealand

No team wants to beat Australia more than New Zealand, and there’s certainly a strong chance to do that at the T20 World Cup.

Batsman Daryl Mitchell unfortunately will not be in the starting XI against Australia, but there’s hope that the skilled allrounder will be in the team for the second game.

A lot of the batting will be on the shoulders of Martin Guptill, who has picked up a solid 592 runs in his last 20 innings (29.60 average), as well as Glenn Phillips and captain Kane Williamson.

Williamson is yet to reach a century in his T20I career (highest is 95), but he’s one of the most dependable batters, displaying the right shot selection and poise that’s up there with Warner. He’s knocked up 2,225 runs in 79 innings during his entire T20 career, and boasts a great batting average of 32.72.

Bowling is where NZ has a bit of a problem, as there’s not exactly anyone on the squad with a name that strikes fear into the hearts of batsmen. Ish Sodhi has been solid with 30 wickets over 24 innings, and Tim Southee has potential to pick up a few quick wickets, but otherwise the cabinet is slightly bare.

New Zealand Playing 11

Devon Conway, Finn Allen, KS Williamson, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, TG Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult.

AUS vs NZ Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely want to bat first on a pitch that batsmen always love.

Pitch and Conditions

It’s a good pitch for spinners at the SCG, but otherwise it tends to favour batters. Unfortunately, there have been thunderstorms forecasted for match day, so this may well disrupt the game.

AUS vs NZ Betting Tips

With Australia being the current T20 World Cup champs and having a fantastic squad on their home pitches, it still feels like they’ll pick up the win against NZ.

There’s a lot to like about this New Zealand squad, especially with captain Williamson pulling the strings, but the team suffered a bad loss to Pakistan in their last T20 match and wasn’t even able to play a warm-up game versus India because of rain.

This will certainly affect their chances against Oz. Australia is in great form right now and until we see another team challenge them in the World Cup, they are the favoured squad to win the title again. Plus, Australia has the advantage of defeating NZ 3-0 in an ODI series back in September.

Bet on Australia to win.
