Regardless of the format, beating Australia in Australia has never been easy, and it proved to be the same in the first match of their series against Sri Lanka as well. They were the dominant side in all three departments of the game as they blew Sri Lanka away by a massive margin of 134 runs. The two teams will now move to Brisbane where both sides will be looking to register a win, albeit for different goals. Australia will be looking to extend its dominance and seal the series in the second match of the series whereas Sri Lanka will be looking for a win to prove that their win over Pakistan wasn't just a fluke. The upcoming match between the two sides is set to be played on 30th October.
There was hardly anything that Australia did wrong in the first match and will be looking to repeat the same in the second match as well. Their batting wasn't tested completely as no one other than David Warner, Aaron Finch, and Glenn Maxwell came out to bat.
Finch looked at his brutal best upfront as he smashed a brilliant fifty to get Australia off to a flying start. After having a dismal Ashes tour, David Warner returned to the form in the format he loves the most as he smashed a swash-buckling century. Maxwell treated the crowd with his innovative batting, just what he is known for, as his knock proved to be the difference between 233 and 210.
Australia will be a little light on bowling resources on Tuesday as Mitchell Starc, who has flown out to attend his brother's wedding. The management, however, won't be too concerned about his absence as all the Aussie bowlers were brilliant in the opening match. In addition to that, the void created by his absence will provide an opportunity for the likes of Billy Stanlake and Sean Abbot to establish themselves in the squad.
Aaron Finch, David Warner, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, AJ Turner, Alex Carey, Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, KW Richardson, Adam Zampa, Billy Stanlake.
Sri Lanka's plans of replicating their performance over Pakistan in this tour were dealt with a major blow after a heavy defeat in the first match. Given the way they performed in the opening fixture, they have a steep hill to climb to get past the Australian unit, which looked invincible in the first match.
The only thing that worked for Sri Lanka in the first match was the toss. After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Sri Lanka could not contain the Aussie batsmen as they had to wait for 122 runs to get the first breakthrough. The wicket didn't bring any respite whatsoever as the next partnership was even more fierce on their bowlers.
Their batting was expected to do better than their bowling did, but it failed to take off. Sri Lanka were reduced to 13 for 3 in the fourth over and could never recover after that. None of their batsmen could get going as they were eventually restricted to 99 for 9 in 20 overs.
Danushka Gunathilaka, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis , Kusal Perera, Niroshan Dickwella, Dasun Shanaka, Wanidu Hasaranga, Isuru Udana, Lakshan Sandakan, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Pradeep.
Check out the Dream11 fantasy prediction for the second match of the series between Australia and Sri Lanka
The first match turned out to be one-way traffic and apart from clean hitting, the fans didn't have much to cheer for. Sri Lanka will be hoping to bounce back in the series and doing so won't be easy for them. Going by the way the two teams performed in the first match, Sri Lanka appear to be in all sorts of disarray. Australia are a strong team, both on paper and on the form, and are pick to emerge on top in the upcoming match as well.
