About the Match
The third day of play saw most of what was expected cricket from both Australia and Pakistan except for the fact that the home team did not enforce the follow-on. Sarfaraz Ahmed played a very useful innings for 59 not out and helped Pakistan reach a total of 142 before they were all out, after which Australia scored 202 at 5.17 runs per over to set the visitors an unlikely 490 runs to win.
What Can We Expect On Day 4?
The Test match has moved at a frenetic pace until now and there is so much time remaining that there is absolutely no chance for a draw. No team has batted out over 200 overs in the fourth innings to play for a draw and there is a zero percent chance of that happening in this innings as well.
Weather, a savior for many in situations like this, is also not going to be helpful to Pakistan as the forecast remains perfect for the last two days of the test.
Pakistan is therefore up against it and will be looking to survive for as long as possible. Realistically, their aim from this innings is going to be to allow their batsmen to get some time in the middle and hopefully be able to put up a more competitive show in the games to follow.
Azhar Ali and Sami Aslam started out well before Aslam lost his wicket to a rash shot outside the off stump. Babar Azam was also worked over by Nathan Lyon, who will be an increasing threat as the game progresses.
In Azhar Ali though, Pakistan has a batsman that is capable of batting out time with ease. If he manages to get through the first hour of the fourth day, he could go on to make a big score. Backing Azhar Ali to get a score of above 70 would be a good bet to make
Betting on the other end with Azhar Ali is Younis Khan, one of the most experienced batsmen in the world and someone that Pakistan needs to do well if they are to have any chance in this series. He has already played 19 balls without scoring a single run and is looking completely out of touch.
Betting on him getting out under the personal score of 20 is a good option
considering he has just put together the worst run of six test innings in his career.
Sarfaraz Ahmed might get a promotion up the order after an impressive showing in the first innings although Pakistan is not known for its flexibility in such situations. Irrespective, he will be full of confidence and can be expected to come out and play some shots whenever he gets the opportunity. He may be a decent pick for top run scorer as well.
Australia will be disappointed that they were only able to get two wickets on the fourth day after the speed with which they finished the first Pakistani innings. Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc are the bowlers most likely to end up with most wickets in the innings.
An Australian victory is certain
at this point, the only question is the speed at which they will get there
