About the Match
Scotland will come to face to face with Australia for the ODI match on September 3rd at Edinburgh. As the hosts improved their chances of qualifying for the ICC World Cup in 2015, they will go into this match with a positive attitude. The visitors on the other hand missed the opportunity to win the T20 series against England, after the loss in the 2nd T20 today. Though the teams are unevenly matched, it will be interesting to see if Scotland can repeat their historic win against the mighty Australians, way back in 1882!
Their win against Kenya in the WCL championship took them closer to their dream of qualifying for the 2015 World Cup. Captain Kyle Coetzer has been ruled out from the squad due to an injury. This might be a bit worrying for the Scots. However, they have some good county players like Matt Machan, Ian Wardlaw, MacLeod, Taylor and Murphy. Preston Mommsen, who led the team against Australia A recently is also in good form. Freddie Coleman, the talented batsman has been included for his brilliant performance in domestic cricket. Gordon Goudie, who had surprised everyone with his 5-73 from 10 overs against Australia way back in 2009, will also be playing in this important match. The players are talented and have the motivation to do well. Let’s see if they have what it takes to defeat the masters of ODI.
The Australia tour of Scotland comes at the back of a loss in the 2nd T20 match against England. Though they levelled the series, the Aussies will want to register an emphatic win against Scotland. The team consists of experienced players like Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, David Warner and the mighty Aaron Finch, who destructed the English team in the 1st T20 match to give them the first advantage. Fawad Ahmed, the leg-spinner did well today with 3 wickets and Faulkner took 2 wickets. Other promising bowlers are Mitchell Johnson and Hazlewood. It needs to be seen if their magic works against the Scottish batting line-up. This match precedes the upcoming ODI series against England and Australia would like to register a much needed victory to boost their spirits.
The current Scotland team not only has talent but also the gritty determination to fight well established teams like Australia. Though most of the players have very less international exposure, this match has the possibilities to bring their talent to the fore. They need to keep their heads cool and strategize well against the visitors, who are known for their fierce tactics. Will Australia’s experience triumph against the spirited Scottish? Can Scotland put up a tough fight against the visitors and emerge victorious? Both teams have a lot riding on them and going by their recent history, it looks like Australia has the clear advantage here. The hosts look well prepared in all departments of the game. Although the returns are not huge if we bet on Aussies, their win can be seen as a certain event and hence profit. Therfore, I’d like to bet on Australia in this game.
