AUSW vs RSAW Match Prediction - Feb 26, 2023

The ongoing edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is reaching its culmination, as the hosts, South Africa take on Australia in the Finals on Sunday.

This final is historic in many ways, as this is the first time that a South African cricket team, men or women, has made it to a World Cup final. Also, this is the 7th consecutive time when Australia has made it to the Women's T20 Finals, marking a memorable day for them too.

AUSW vs RSAW Team Previews

Australia Women

Australia Women are easily the best-performing team of this season, as they are yet to be defeated after playing 5 matches. Having won the previous two editions of the marquee event, Australia Women have played like true champions and have hardly faltered in their journey so far.

The top-order trio of Alyssa Healy, Beth Mooney, and Meg Lanning are in top form and have helped Australia Women get some good starts throughout this season. After decimating the opposition in the group stages, Australia Women faced a formidable Indian team in the semifinals.

Beth Mooney scored her second half-century of the season, while Lanning played an impressive knock of 49 not out to help Australia set a match-winning score. Ashleigh Gardner has been excellent with the ball, and is the joint-highest wicket-taker for Australia this season along with Megan Schutt, with both taking 9 wickets so far. Young seamer Darcie Brown has been quite impressive and bowled a brilliant spell of 2 wickets for 18 runs in the semifinals and is likely to get the new ball here.

Georgia Wareham and Ellyse Perry have done a decent job in the middle overs and will be looking to dry up the runs to put South Africa under pressure. Overall, Australia has an excellent balance in their team and will be looking to continue its dominating approach in this match too.

South Africa Women

After losing 2 of their first 3 matches in the group stage, not many believed that South Africa will make it to the next stage. However, they defeated Bangladesh by 10 wickets in the last match of the group stage and barely scraped through to the semis.

However, they seem to be peaking in form just at the right time as they pulled off a stunning win against England in the semifinals. Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt were in red-hot form at the top of the order as both scored individual half-centuries and put up a 96-run opening stand and an excellent cameo by Marizanne Kapp helped South Africa reach 158-8 in 20 overs.

The seamers, Ayabonga Khaka and Shabnim Ismail bowled a disciplined line and length to take 7 wickets between them, with the latter bowling a brilliant last over under pressure to defend 13 runs. The middle-order batting has been a weak link for South Africa Women this season as Sune Luus, Chloe Tryon, and Nadine de Klark have failed to make a big score so far and the trio will be looking to make a more meaningful contribution in this game.

Nonkululeko Mlaba has been quite good with her left-arm orthodox spin and along with Tryon, will be looking to ask some tough questions of the famed Australian batting line-up.

AUSW vs RSAW Toss Prediction

3 of the last 4 matches played at Cape Town, including both the semifinals, have been won by the team batting first. We, therefore, think that the captain winning the toss will be looking to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

As displayed in the last few matches, the track at Newlands Stadium is excellent to bat on and the average first-inning score here for this tournament is between 150-160. The pitch has a good and consistent bounce, and the batsmen will enjoy playing big shots here.

The quicker bowlers are likely to get some movement thanks to the windy conditions. Making a big score and putting the opposition batters under pressure is the way to go here. We do expect to see some clouds but there is no chance of rain.

The temperature will remain between 21-23 degrees Celsius.

AUSW vs RSAW Betting Tips

While South Africa Women have played some excellent cricket over the last few days, we think that Australia holds the aces here. The visitors have been in phenomenal form throughout this tournament and are quite used to playing on the big stage. On the other hand, South Africa has never played in a World Cup final before and will find it difficult to cope under the pressure of playing against quality opposition like Australia Women.

Bet on Australia Women to win.

Tazmin Brits is in excellent form in this tournament and has scored half-centuries in each of her last 2 outings. She has been the top batter of her team in 2 of the last 3 matches, including in the group-stage game against Australia. We are therefore backing her to once again emerge as the top batter for South Africa in this match.
