Sri Lankan Women's tour of Australia is going exactly as we expected it to be. The visitors haven't been able to inflict any damage whatsoever in five completed matches - three T20Is and two ODIs, and they have just one final chance remaining to redeem their pride. The two teams are set to see each other on Wednesday, 9th October, at the Gabba Cricket Ground, Brisbane. Australia are sitting comfortably at the top in ICC Women's World Championship, and another win here should only strengthen their position. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, are languishing at the bottom of the ladder and will be desperate to get a win a rise at the ladder, albeit a bit.
There couldn't be a better cricketing summer for Australian Women fans than it has been. Australian women have managed to win both home and away with scintillating wins over England, West Indies, and Sri Lanka. Spanning across multiple series, Australia's success in the last match was their 17th consecutive ODI win.
In the ongoing series, Australian are on a winning spree as well, with three wins in T20Is followed by a couple of wins in one-dayers. In the last match, Australia posted a comfortable win riding on the back of Rachael Haynes, who smashed a brilliant century to take the team's total of 282. While the sum was too much to handle for the visitors, it was still a lot less than what Australia seemed to be getting to for the most part of the innings.
Just like they were with the bat, Australians did nothing wrong with the ball. Despite the fact that the visitors were pretty much in the game midway through their innings, Australian bowlers wrapped things up beautifully in the second half. Jess Jonassen was the pick of their bowlers who returned with the figures of 4 for 31 in her ten overs.
With this win over Sri Lanka, Australia now have the unassailable lead in the Women's Championship, and we expect them to make a few experiments in their forthcoming matches. Having said that, they will certainly not be any easier to play against, considering the bench strength they have.

Unlike their men's counterpart, the Sri Lankan women team hasn't been able to make a mark in the world cricket, yet. In the ongoing Women's World Championship, Sri Lankan women have won just one match and are currently placed at the bottom of the table with just one win to their name, amounting to only two points.
Considering the way they've performed in the series so far, expecting a win from them would be a remote ask. In the series so far, they've failed to make any impact whatsoever, failing to win any of the five matches played.
Chasing a total of a tall order, Sri Lanka started reasonably well, a lot better than they did in the first ODI. They looked well in control with 95 runs to their name in the 23rd over, but poor inexperience in the middle-order came into the picture as they all got out in trying to force the issue a little too early. They were eventually dismantled entirely for a total of just 172.

There's been a stark difference between how the two teams have fared in the tournament and in the recent times. While Australia have been in rampaging form, the Islanders have failed to gather any momentum whatsoever. Comparing the form and the on-paper combination of the two sides, Australians are ahead by a considerable margin, and are, therefore, our pick to emerge as victorious in the upcoming encounter. Although their win offers minuscule returns, one could consider betting on them as a guaranteed win.
