With a terrific and unanticipated win over Afghanistan in the last encounter, Zimbabwe gracefully bowed out of the tri-series. With the final two teams of the series already decided, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are set to meet in a virtual rehearsal on 21st September. While the final of the tournament will be played at Dhaka, the upcoming match will be played at Chattogram. The performances of Afghanistan and Bangladesh have almost been at par in the series so far, and despite the forthcoming game being a dead rubber, we expect a hard-fought contest between the two sides.
With a loss in the first test, Bangladesh had a poor start to their home season which extended to the T20I leg of the tour as well as they lost the T20I of the tri-series to Afghanistan. However, since their loss to Afghanistan, they've pulled themselves up and have somehow managed to qualify for the finale.
In the three matches played so far, Bangladesh have won two and lost one. Their only loss came against Afghanistan that was a couple of days ago. Chasing a total of 164 on a reasonably good batting surface, Bangladesh failed to make any impression whatsoever as their batsmen failed to stay at the crease and were eventually dismissed for 139.
The next match turned out to be a much better affair for them as they defeated Zimbabwe by a massive margin of 39 runs. Batting first, Bangladesh got off to a good start with both their openers contributing with cameos. However, a quick three-wicket loss stalled their flow of runs. A fabulous knock by Mahumudullah with excellent support from Mushfiqur Rahim took them to a particularly useful total of 175.
While it was a superb effort from Mahmudullah, their win was set up by brilliant bowling from Shafiul Islam who picked up three crucial wickets. Mustafizur Rahman and Animal Islam returned with two wickets each to their name. They have a bowling attack which is perfectly suited to the kind of conditions the upcoming match is going to be played in, and with batting looking in fine form, Bangladesh will not be as easy to beat as they were in the earlier half of this series.

Afghanistan have been in stupendous form in the season so far. They started their campaign with a remarkable win over Bangladesh in the longest format of the game and then followed it up with an excellent performance in the T20Is.
So far in the tournament, they have won two matches of a total of three played. The only defeat they faced came in their last game, which was against Zimbabwe. Over the years in limited-overs cricket, they've struggled with an inconsistent batting lineup and the same was on display in their previous match as well. Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz got them off to a decent start as the duo put on 83 runs for the first wicket before the former departed.
The wicket of Gurbaz a few overs later triggered a mini-collapse from which they could never recover and were eventually folded for 155. Their bowlers needed to get early wickets to defend that modest total, but a superb knock by Hamilton Masakadza in his last match derailed all the plans of Afghanistan. Afghanistan have so far been excellent in the three games they've played, and if their batsmen perform to their potential, Bangladesh are going to have their work cut out.
Hazratullah Zazai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Shafiqullah, Asghar Afghan, Mohammad Nabi, N Zadran, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Karim Janat, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
While the three teams were evenly before the series started, we did not see any close game in the tournament. With stakes getting higher with every passing match and World T20 just around a year away, the importance of each game is significant. Both the teams have their strengths and weaknesses, and even though Afghanistan have done better than Bangladesh so far, Bangladesh are likely to be a tough team to deal with. The Tigers are playing at home and considering the improvement they have shown in their matches in the tournament so far; they are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.
