There's a reason that test cricket is known as the pinnacle of the game. We saw two unanticipated results in the last week as England stunned India and West Indies chased down a massive total to rock Bangladesh back. With that win for Windies, the tables have turned beautifully as they now have the momentum and Bangladesh are left searching for stability.
The second test between the two sides is anticipated to be another spectacle that is likely to go right down to the wire. Even though West Indies hold the lead and consequently the advantage, they are still the more inexperienced side between the two. The momentum is with West Indies and the statistics are with Bangladesh. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this all-important match, which is set to start on 11th February at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
While the teams generally pick up the pace when the tournament progress, the hosts are in fact left searching for answers. They are coming off a disastrous result and will no longer have the services of one of their most experienced man in the second match. Shakib Al Hasan is ruled out of the match due to the hip injury that he sustained in the first test. Alongside him, Shadnam Islam, who played well in the first match, is likely to miss the upcoming match as well.
With Shakib Al Hasan not available, Bangladesh's bowling will have plenty of questions to answer. Soumya Sarkar has been announced as Al Hasan's replacement, but he is unlikely to be as effective a bowler as Shakib Al Hasan. Mehidy Hasan did well on a deteriorating wicket in the first test, but apart from him, we saw a sorry story as far as the hosts' bowling performance is concerned.
It was clearly evident in the first match as well that Bangladesh struggled with their fast bowlers. It is not hidden that Bangladesh have a spin-heavy strategy and given the way things have worked out in recent times, their strategy seems to be a little dated. Having said that, Dhaka's surface will be more conducive to spin and that might help Bangladesh do better in this upcoming match.
Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Mithun, Liton Das, Mehidy Hasan, Nayeem Hasan, Taijul Islam, Abu Jayed.
Coming into this series, West Indies didn't really stand a chance, but they defied all odds and won the first match on the back of some incredible individual performances. The performances by Kyle Mayers and Nkrumah Bonner were the stand-out ones, but their other players played their respective parts as well.
Kyle Mayers was fantastic in the first match as he became the first debutant to score a double-century in the fourth innings of a test. Nkrumah Bonner played a fantastic knock that came in after a long wait for the fans. The unsung hero of the visitors was perhaps Shannon Gabriel, who bowled his heart out on a lifeless surface to keep Bangladesh down to a manageable total in the second innings.
Having momentum at their disposal is always a good thing in cricket, regardless of the format or the venue. With an inspiring win in the previous match, the Caribbean team will now be brimming with confidence and would be difficult to get past. Unlike Bangladesh, they have no injury concerns and are likely to go in with the same. If their players can contribute as well as they did in the first match, Bangladesh might have another tough outing in the second match.
Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell, Sheyne Moseley, NE Bonner, Kyle Mayers, Jermaine Blackwood, Joshua De Silva, Rahkeem Cornwall, Alzarri Joseph, Jomel Warrican, Shannon Gabriel.

West Indies have been ahead on many away tours in recent times, but they have also failed to finish those tours on a happy note on those occasions. They have the momentum and confidence, but the requirement will still be to put their best foot forward. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be playing in with a depleted side that will not be as confident as they were at the beginning of the series. Having said that, they still have the home advantage and an overall better side between the two, at least on paper. Considering that and the unpredictability that West Indies have about them, we expect Bangladesh to register a win in this upcoming match.
