BAN vs ZIM Match Prediction - Mar 09, 2020

It has been a disappointing tour of Zimbabwe to Bangladesh thus far. They were rattled in the only test and then knocked out in the ODI series. Up until now, they never looked threatening apart from one occasion where Donalt Tiripano single-handedly took Zimbabwe to the doorsteps of a win. Their loss in the third ODI was the most comprehensive of all. They were defeated by a margin of over a hundred runs in a match that was shortened to 43 overs a side. The weaker sides generally step-up their game and perform better in the shorter format of the game and we expect the same to happen with Zimbabwe as well. The first T20I between the two sides is to be played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka on 9th March.

BAN vs ZIM Team Previews

Bangladesh

After posting a superb win in the only test, Bangladesh expected a fiercer competition in the limited-overs format. They got that, but even that was too little to cause this Bangladeshi unit any trouble whatsoever. Apart from the second match, where they had to face a bit of a resistance, Bangladesh were all over Zimbabwe.

In the last ODI of the series, Bangladesh posted a massive total of 322 batting first and won the match by a margin of 104 runs. The fact that they were only three down after the end of their innings was commenable. Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das added a record total of 292 runs for the first wicket and there was not much time left for the middle-order batsmen to be done thereafter. These two are going to be key for the Bangladesh in the T20Is as well.

While the pitch was fantastic to bat on, Liton Das and Tamim Iqbal paced their innings perfectly. Also, their bowlers ensured that the Zimbabweans do not get off to a similar start. Mashrafe Mortaza was expensive in his last game as a skipper and so was Mohammad Saifuddin. However, Saifuddin pick up four wickets for 41 and that triggered a collapse from which the Zimbabweans could never recover. Taijul Hossain was impressive as well and he gave away just 38 runs in his nine overs and picked up two wickets in the process. After posting a superb win in the only test, Bangladesh expected a fiercer competition in the limited-overs format. Zimbabwe

Although Zimbabweans showed glimpses of brilliance, the glimpses were too far too few. Apart from Donald Tiripano's innings and a few others in the second ODI they is hardly anything positive for the tourists to talk about. They never looked convincing against the hosts and may find it difficult in the shortest format of the game as well.

While teams generally tend to improve as they play more matches in the subcontinent conditions, it appeared to be opposite for the tourists. The poorest performance of the series from them came in the last match of the series wherein they were defeated by a massive margin. All their bowlers looked listless before CT Mumba picked up three wickets at the death, but it really didn't matter by the time he picked up those wickets.

Chasing a total of 342 in 43 overs required a quick start from the tourists, but not only did they fail to start quickly, they failed to keep wickets intact as well. With the likes of Sean Williams, Wesley Madhavere, Sikandar Raza scoring quick cameos, there was a fight from Zimbabwe, but it didn't prove to be enough. Given the form they have been in, it is going to be difficult for them to challenge hosts in the shortest format as well.

BAN vs ZIM Betting Tips

There has been a massive difference between the performances of the two sides in the tour so far. While Bangladesh have looked confident and proactve, Zimbabweans looked down on morale and the result of the third ODI would only add to the gap. Given the two sides on paper and their respective performances, betting on a Bangladeshi win would be the way to go in this encounter.
