About the Match
Bangladesh registered an emphatic ODI series win against South Africa and look ahead to an exciting test series, with the first test scheduled to start on 21st July at Chittagong. The Proteas will be eager to come back stronger and show why they are one of the top teams in the test format. The hosts on the other hand will be determined to perform well here too; it needs to be seen which side can make good use of the resources at hand and triumph in the first test.
Shakib Al Hasan has been contributing well with bat and ball, picking up wickets to break partnerships and helping the team chase targets with ease; his all-rounder skills continue to earn him accolades. Shakiband Mashrafe completed 200 ODI wickets in the recently concluded series and look good to come back in the test with renewed vigour. Combined with bowlers like Nasir Hossain, Rubel Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, MominulHaque and Mahmudullah, the bowling unit looks a tough one to beat on home conditions.
With the bat, the team has established players like Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah, Shakib Al Hasan and Soumya Sarkar, who scored 90 off 75 in the 3rd ODI to take the team to a series victory. Mushfiqur Rahim leads the side with confidence and will strategize well to outwit the South Africans here too; however, the test format needs patience and the will to play a sturdy innings, which will surely be tested by the visitors.
They will need to come out all guns blazing to give a hard time to the South African pace attack and build strong foundations; with a team that has players peaking at the right time, this could well be the beginning of a new era in Bangladesh cricket, and the first test will show glimpses of that change.
Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock and the captain himself, HashimAmla are in good form with the bat, keeping the scoreboard ticking; Reeza Hendricks, the young flamboyant batsman, will make his test debut and may open the innings. Stiaan van Zyl, JP Duminy, Deal Elgar and others like Temba Bavuma and Dane Vilas provide options to strengthen the batting line-up down the order.
Dale Steyn, MorneMorkel, Vernon Philander and KagisoRabada, who crushed Bangladesh in the 1st ODI with figures of 6-16 in his eight over spell, provide the best pace attack in the world at the moment and they will definitely fire from all cylinders in the tests too. Aaron Phangiso, Duminy and Simon Harmer will provide the spin options; overall, the bowling unit is a tough nut to crack no matter what the situation is.
With a well-balanced team of strong batsmen and ruthless pace attack, this team is surely a formidable force to reckon with.
Although Bangladesh received a major morale boost with the ODI series victory, they will need to up their ante for the test matches; South Africa on the other hand have proved time and again to be masters of this format and we feel they will prevail yet again with a win and prove their mettle in the first match
