About the Match
With an emphatic test series victory by 3-0 against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh is all set to go up against the visitors in the 5-match ODI series, the first of which is scheduled to be held on 21st Nov at Chittagong. While the hosts are rejoicing over their phenomenal performance in the test matches, Zimbabwe will try to make amends after their disappointing run here; both sides will however try to outwit each other in the limited over series with fans anticipating their sides to do well right from the start.
The team has performed excellently and this win has given them a comprehensive advantage ahead of the World cup next year; after a disappointing year, the players are excited about their chances here and will surely put their best foot forward from here on. Imrul Kayes, Mahmudullah, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqr Rahim, Tamim Iqbal and the quintessential Shakib Al Hasan are in very good form and they will the key pillars of the batting line-up. In the bowling squad they have Rubel Hossain, Al-Amin Hossain and the captain Mashrafe Mortaza himself, who will provide the pace attack with their varied bowling skills whereas the spinners Jubair Hossain, Haque Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman and the very successful Shakib will surely deliver for the cause of the team. This is a growing unit and they have a good balance of all-rounders and individual achievers in all departments of the game. With a desire to do well once again in front of the home crowd, the team will be a tough nut to crack by Zimbabwe.
Though the team had a dismal run during the tests, they have certain positives that can surely make this side a difficult one to break; Hamilton Masakadza, who performed well here with both bat and ball, will be a strong asset and along with players like Regis Chakabva, who scored his maiden test century in the series, the batting line-up looks promising. All-rounders Sikandar Raza and Elton Chigumbura will need to take advantage of their experience and deliver for the cause of the team while Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine will have to step up in the middle order if they want to put up a stiff opposition to the Bangladeshi spinners. On the bowling front, they have performers like Tinashe Panyangara, who was among the top-five wicket takers in the test series, Natsai M’Shangwe, Malcolm Waller, Tendai Chatara and Vusi Sibanda who are known for their wicket-taking abilities. They have a good mix of talent and experience but they must learn to strategize well against the hosts if they want to start the ODI series on a positive note on Friday.
Bangladesh has a definite advantage going into the series but they need to be cautious against complacency, which at this stage could hamper their winning momentum; on the other hand Zimbabwe needs to come out all guns blazing if they want to make a dent on the hosts. While the match will be well fought by both sides, we feel Bangladesh will emerge victorious yet again.
