About the Match
Bangladesh leads the ODI series against Zimbabwe 2-0 after consecutive victories at home and the team is ecstatic on closing in on a series win in the limited overs format when they meet again for the 3rd ODI at Dhaka on 26th Nov. While the visitors will be eager to turn their efforts into sweet victory, they will have to come out all guns blazing in this do or die contest if they want to make a comeback against the dominating hosts. It will be interesting to see which team can keep a cool head above its shoulders and emerge victorious in the upcoming match on Wednesday.
Winning the 2nd ODI massively by 68 runs thanks to a blistering start by openers Tamim Iqbal and Anamul Haque who put up a 158-run opening stand, Bangladesh continued to showcase its talent while annihilating the visitors’ chances at recovery. Players like Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqr Rahim, Mominul Haque, Iqbal and Anamul Haque are contributing well to the team with their spirited batting skills while the bowling squad is precise in demolishing the opponents at regular intervals. While Arafat Sunny took 4 wickets in the previous match and Mashrafe Mortaza claimed 3 wickets to restrict Zimbabwe from reaching the target of 252 runs, it was Shakib Al Hasan’s 4-41 in the first ODI along with a combined contribution from Mahmudullah, Sunny and Mortaza that won them the match. The bowler have been consistent with their good performance while the batsmen are putting up decent partnerships to give them fighting targets; overall, the team has risen from the ashes and are a tough unit to beat on home turf at this stage.
They are yet to learn from their past mistakes and pull together a solid innings on the batting front; while they succumbed to pressure in the first match by getting all-out by the 43rd over, in the second match they managed to survive till the 45th over, both times losing the contest by huge margins. While Masakadza and Taylor are struggling to be consistent, others like Chakabva, Mire and Chigumbura also need to rise up to the occasion and come out all guns blazing if they want to chase successfully. The middle order showed some improvement in the last game but they need to be more confident and avoid giving away wickets easily; on the bowling front, Kamungozi, Panyangara, Chatara and others have been working hard to restrict the hosts to achievable targets but the batsmen need to take their responsibilities more seriously in chasing the scores. If batting first, Chigumbura and his men need to focus on the positives and execute the strategy to perfection if they want to keep their hopes alive here.
Bangladesh has the psychological advantage being in the lead but they need to be cautious against a hurting team; Zimbabwe on the other hand needs to realize the importance of this contest and wake up before it’s too late to make amends. While the match will surely be well fought by both sides, we feel Bangladesh will seal the series with another win on Wednesday.
