About the Match
Barbados Tridents have 4 points from 2 wins out of 3 played so far and they take on Antigua Hawksbills, who are yet to register a win even after 4 matches, on 25th July at Bridgetown. Currently placed 4th on the table, the Tridents are looking to garner more points while the Hawksbills after suffering their fourth straight defeat will be eager to revive their campaign with a much needed win here. The team that can use its resources well and keep its nerves together in crunch situations will definitely have the upper hand.
Nothing seems to be working for the team presently, and they need to come up with a better game plan and execute it perfectly if they want to keep their campaign alive. In the last match, put into bat first, the batsmen could accumulate only 151 runs against Red Steel and the bowlers gave it away with too many runs leaked. Dunk opens well but hardly has support from the other end; Danza Hyatt hasn’t been scoring in the previous games and needs to pull up his socks to provide support from the top. Marlon Samuels, who had scored 84 off 54 balls against the Tridents on 20th, couldn’t repeat his good work against Red Steel in the recent match. Hussey has been consistent, doing his bit, but he too hasn’t yet found his rhythm to score the big runs. In the bowling squad things look too bleak as the bowlers have been in disarray, giving away too many runs and unable to defend the respectable totals too. They need to find discipline in their bowing and be collectively attack with better focus and determination. The players need to improve in all departments of the game if they want to avenge their earlier defeat against the same opponents.
The team has had a good run so far, winning 2 out of 3 matches played, but they need to win those more convincingly to get them a better NRR if they want to give a stiff opposition to the other leading teams. In the last match against the Zouks, it was a superb knock of 110 off 69 balls by Dwayne Smith and his 110-run partnership with Shoaib Malik, who scored 49 runs, that provided a major boost to the total leading to 186 runs losing only 2 wickets. Smith excelled in every aspect as he smashed away 8 sixes and 7 boundaries to thwart the efforts of the Zouks. And some good bowling by Mendis, Holder and Emrit, and a brilliant piece of fielding by Rampaul, who sadly couldn’t repeat his good performance with the ball here, took them though to a 29 run victory. In the previous match against the same opponents Hawksbills, the batsmen had chased down 172 runs successfully thanks to Malik’s 72 off 50 balls and good effort by Pollard and Smith. Rampaul had excelled with 4-32, and he is in good form to come back with more firepower. Having already won against the Hawksbills, Tridents will surely have the psychological advantage and they need to convert that into a victory by a huge margin to take them ahead in the table.
When the two teams met earlier, the Tridents dominated throughout the match and won comfortably. With Hawksbills’ recent performances, they will have to pull out a miracle to do better here and we feel the Tridents will win once again.
