About the Match
The Amazon Warriors clinched a superb victory against Tridents by 6 wickets to reserve a berth in the upcoming playoffs; with 12 points after 9 matches, they are in the 2nd position close behind Tallawahs, and will try to exert their dominance yet again when they take on Tridents a second time on 30th July at Lauderhill. The Tridents have 7 points so far and they are desperate for a win now in this last league game to keep any hopes alive; they were outwitted by the Warriors, being able to muster only 142 runs and they will try to come back stronger. On the other hand, the Warriors have done well to keep their winning momentum going and can pose a stiff challenge here on Saturday.
David Wiese and Shoaib Malik fought hard to keep the scoreboard ticking against Warriors on Thursday but with players like AB de Villiers absent from the squad and other like Pollard, Pooran, Hope and Ahmed Shehzad failing to come out with the big runs, they could only garner 142 runs in the end. Speedsters Reifer, Imran Khan and Pollard provided breakthroughs but there wasn’t enough to defend against the Warriors.
They definitely have the resources with bat and ball to make a comeback in the upcoming game; with in-form bowlers like Rampaul, Akeal Hosein, Reifer, Wiese and Khan, they surely can outwit the opponents provided the batsmen can get a decent total on board. Pooran has been in good form and he can build a strong foundation with others like Shehzad, Malik, Pollard and all-rounder David Wiese.
In the game against Zouks, Pooran scored a brilliant 81 from 39 balls and he surely can fire again on Saturday; other South African bowlers like Parnell are also out of the squad but they have enough talent to put up a good fight against the Warriors on Saturday.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
Dwayne Smith and Maddinson posted heroic half-centuries to help chase down the required 143-run target with ease against Tridents; they won the match by 6 wickets with 10 balls to spare and this victory has sealed them a berth in the playoffs. Earlier, the bowlers Sohail Tanvir and Rayad Emrit broke Tridents partnerships as they took 2 wickets each; spinners Adam Zampa and Jacobs too provided a wicket each while Barnwell dismissed Wiese to cause a major upset.
Chris Lynn too has been in good form as seen from his 86 off 45 against Zouks while Smith posted a well-made half century; however they lost the game because the bowlers found it difficult to defend 159 runs with Tanvir being the lone wicket taker.
The batting line-up can definitely build a good foundation whether batting first or during chase; the bowling unit too has a good mix of spinners and pacemen, who can help the team achieve its goals.
Having made it to the next stage, Warriors will come out more confident here but they will not take Tridents lightly; the Barbados team can try to overcome its weaknesses with a better performance but we feel that Warriors with their current tempo will emerge victorious
