About the Match
With only a one point difference between the Zouks and the Tridents in the ongoing CPL T20 league, both sides will look to overcome the challenge from the other when they meet in the next match on 1st July at Basseterre. Both teams lost their respective matches over the weekend and will try to bounce back with a win here on Wednesday; it needs to be seen which one of them will succeed in keeping a cool head above its shoulders and triumph to march forward in their campaign.
St. Lucia Zouks
It was a dismal effort from the batsmen when the Tallawahs bowlers got the better of them in the previous match to restrict them to a lowly 118 runs; except Johnson Charles and Kevin Pietersen, the rest could hardly put up a fight and succumbed to pressure against bowlers like Santokie, Theron and Jerome Taylor. They lost the match by 10 wickets to suffer a major setback to their winning momentum; the batsmen will need to pull up their socks and perform better against the Tridents in the upcoming match. With a low total on board, the bowlers felt the pressure and none of them were able to take the Tallawahs out; Fidel Edwards, Shannon Gabriel, Eddie Leie and Roach had performed well in the previous two matches against Warriors and Patriots, defending 156 runs against the former and restricting Patriots to 149 runs, which the batsmen had chased successfully. They will need to combine their resources and experience well again to come out all guns blazing against the Tridents to go back to their winning ways.
It was a shocking defeat against newcomers Patriots in the last game when the batsmen, despite a heroic 82 off 58 by Pollard, couldn’t achieve 143 runs and lost the match by 1 run. Shoaib Malik too contributed with 35 runs but players like Carter, Holder, Munaweera and Smith couldn’t step up and share the responsibilities. The bowlers Rampaul, Emrit and Pollard had claimed 2 wickets each and did well to restrict the opponent to a modest total but the batsmen failed to take the team home safely. In the previous match against Red Steel, it was the bowlers who shone with their skills and restricted hard-hitting batsmen like Kallis, Akmal and Delport to low scores and got them all-out for 95 runs, which the batsmen achieved without a sweat thanks to openers Smith and Munaweera scoring quick runs and with help from Malik and Carter, they wrapped it up by the 14th over. They definitely have the firepower to come back stronger and win the match against the Zouks on Wednesday.
Both teams have suffered their first loss of the season in their previous games but they both look good to make a comeback with a win on Wednesday when they meet each other for the first time. While Zouks have a strong batting line-up and experienced bowlers, who can take wickets regularly, we feel that the Tridents who are a well-balanced team with good all-rounders are better placed to win the match.
