About the Match
Tridents have climbed up to the 2nd position with 5 points after a massive win against Patriots by 25 runs; they will take on T&T Riders, who are placed fourth with 4 points, on 16th July at Bridgetown. The Riders had earlier defeated Tridents by 11 runs and they will be eager to annihilate the opponents once again; on the other hand, Tridents who are a winning roll after emerging victorious in two consecutive games will leave no stone unturned to keep the momentum going.
AB de Villiers has bounced back to form and his 82 off just 54 set up the foundation for a challenging 181-run target against Patriots, which the bowlers defended successfully to win the match by 25 runs. Speedsters Rampaul, Imran Khan, Parnell and Reifer took 6 wickets between them to demolish the Patriots middle order while Hosein spun his way into the top-order, dismissing both openers within the 5th over.
Against Riders, although fast-bowler Rampaul and spinner Hosein took 2 wickets each, they couldn’t stop Amla and Bravo from scoring the big runs; chasing 171 proved to be an uphill task for captain Pollard and others like ABD, Pooran and Shoaib Malik and they had lost the match by 11 runs. However, now with AB de Villiers shining again with the bat, the middle order looks quite formidable and they will be able to give a better fight to the Riders this time around.
Overall, they have a well-balanced bowling squad with in-form bowlers like Rampaul, Parnell, Khan, Wiese and Akeal Hosein; the batting line-up has experienced players and they can definitely put up a good challenge to the opposition.
Trinbago Knight Riders
Amla has been delivering punches with the bat and steers the team to strong totals; he scored 64 off 54 against Warriors to help post 151 while his superb 81 along with Bravo’s unbeaten 66 took them to 170 against Tridents earlier. Middle-order players like Colin Munro, Umar Akmal and Denesh Ramdin can stabilize the innings if batting first or during chase.
The bowling has been outstanding as seen in the win against Warriors wherein spinners Sunil Narine and Anton Devcich took 2 wickets each to stifle the opponents; Bravo, Cooper and Benn have also contributed well with the ball and can come out with all their firepower on Saturday. Defending 151 against Warriors was no easy task but they kept their cool and worked as a well-oiled machine to restrict them to 144 runs and win the match by a narrow 7 runs.
With a sturdy batting line-up that consists of stalwarts like Amla, Akmal, Bravo and other all-rounders, Riders will surely try to pull off another win here. While the spinners are consistently taking wickets, the seamers too have been instrumental in defending totals; overall, they are a determined lot who will draw inspiration from their previous win over Tridents.
Riders do have the psychological advantage of having defeated Tridents earlier and their recent win against Warriors has boosted their morale; however, Tridents who convincingly won two games in a row look better placed to emerge victorious on Saturday.
