About the Match
The Tridents are flying high with two consecutive wins, first against the Warriors and then against the Tallawahs; they will now take on T&T Red Steel in the upcoming match on 25th June at Bridgetown. Red Steel in their previous match had to share points with the Zouks after rain played spoil-sport but will be eager to overcome the challenge by the Tridents and score a win here on Thursday. The contest will surely be interesting with lot of fireworks across the stadium and it could well go down to the wire.
They conquered the Tallawahs by defending 161 runs successfully, thanks to a superb 3-26 by Robin Peterson and Pollard, Rampaul and Rayad Emrit taking 2 scalps each to restrict the opponents to 145 runs. The bowlers did a great job in stunning hard-hitting batsmen like Gayle, Jayawardene and Russell among others; earlier the batsmen set up good partnerships with Smith scoring 56 off 53 and Shoaib Malik posting an unbeaten 43 to help the team post a competitive total on board. They also won the opening match of the season against the Warriors by a whopping 49 runs after amassing 158 batting first; Pollard’s unbeaten 48 off 26 with good contributions from Malik and Carter set up the good total. Again the bowlers earned praise for confidently defending the score with Rampaul achieving figure of 3-16 and Peterson claiming 3 wickets giving away just 31 runs. Pollard picked up 2 wickets to provide an all-round support to the team; overall, they have strong contenders in Malik, Pollard and Smith, who can come out all guns blazing as and when required and established bowlers, who can restrict the opposition with ease to win matches.
Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel
While the batsmen haven’t got an opportunity till now to show their skills, the bowlers in the first match against the Zouks weren’t impressive enough in restricting the run-flow. Kallis picked up two wickets while Badree and Cooper claimed a wicket each but the others gave away too many runs at the end leading to a competitive 179 runs set as target for the batsmen. However, rains affected the match and Kallis, who got off to a good start with a six and a boundary, couldn’t do more on that day. The team has a strong batting line-up with players like Bravo, Delport, Kallis, Johan Botha and other youngsters whereas the bowling department looks good with experts like Dwayne, Badree, Cooper, Botha and Sulieman Benn, who provide variety and depth to the attack. If they can strategize well against the hard-hitting Tridents, they can surely pull of a much-needed win in the upcoming match.
The Tridents are reigning supreme with two wins and have received a major morale boost to keep their winning momentum going forward; Red Steel also has a good mix of match-winners and young talent, who can come up with a strong performance; however, going by the form, the Tridents start as the favorites to win the match on Thursday
