About the Match
The Bulls are in the 5th position with 6 points in their kitty, after losing their match against Vikings recently by a whopping 78 runs; they will take on Titans, who slipped down to the 2nd place after suffering defeat at the hands of Riders by 7 wickets, on 25th November at Dhaka. The Titans have 10 points in their bag and would be determined to make a comeback with a win here; on the other hand, Bulls who have lost three straight games now would be anxious to start climbing up the ladder to make it to the top four.
Fast bowlers Rabbi, Perera and Emrit got regular breakthroughs against Vikings but they gave away too many easy runs, leading to a 186-run target for the batsmen. Dawid Malan, Nadif Chowdhury and Shahriar Nafees, who had done well in previous games, couldn’t fire with the bat and were dismissed for single digits. Mushfiqur Rahim too was out of sorts, being able to contribute with only 19; there was some respite when lower-order batsman Enamul Haque, posted 42 off 37, but with hardly anyone left to support, they lost the match by 78 runs, getting all-out by the 19th over.
Against Titans previously, the bowlers were successful in restricting them to 151 runs but again a batting line-up collapse led to their downfall, and they lost the match by 22 runs. Spinner Taijul Islam found success as he took 3-18 in his 4-over spell while fast bowlers Emrit, Perera and Rumman Raees took a wicket each. They have good combination of pace and spin, which they can try to use against Mahmudullah, Fletcher and other hard-hitting Titans.
Overall, they have the resources to overcome the challenges here and try to make their way back against the slippery slope they have fallen into.
In the recent match against Riders, openers Fletcher and Abdul Mazid couldn’t build the required foundation; the in-form Mahmudullah too didn’t impress with the bat, as he got dismissed at 11. Middle-order batsmen Taibur Rahman, Ariful Haque and Wessels tried to keep the scoreboard ticking but they could manage only 125 runs in the end. Mahmudullah tried to make amends with the ball by taking one wicket but he couldn’t succeed in stifling the opposition. Fast bowlers Junaid Khan and Howell took a wicket each but it wasn’t enough to defend the low total.
They have previously defeated the Bulls and will draw inspiration from that win. Wessels and Mahmudullah had scored 40+ runs each in that game while Ariful’s 26 helped them reach 151. Fast bowler Shafiul Islam took 4-17 while spinner Mosharraf Hossain dismissed 2 opponents; Junaid Khan, Mahmudullah and Cooper had provided regular breakthroughs to win the match by 22 runs.
The conditions at Dhaka would be different from Chittagong, where they had last faced the Bulls; the bowlers are in terrific form and they could try and strategize well against the out-of-form Bulls’ batting line-up here.
The Bulls can try to put up an all-round performance here to end their losing streak but we feel that the Titans, who have won the contest against Bulls before are better placed to emerge victorious.
