About the Match
Hubli defeated Bellary Tuskers by 7 wickets in their last outing to reach the 3rd place on the table with 4 points; they will now try to outwit Belagavi Panthers when they meet for the 12th Match of the league at Hubballi on 22nd September. The Panthers also registered a win against Shivamogga by 8 wickets convincingly to gain 4 points; they are placed 2nd on the table and will try to continue with their winning momentum on Thursday. It needs to be seen which team will cleverly use its resources to put the pressure on the opponent and win this game.
They have won both the games they played till now and have done well in all departments of the game; against Shivamogga and Bijapur Bulls, they restricted the opponents to lowly totals, which was chased down successfully by the batsmen. Spinners Praveen Dubey’s scintillating 4-19 and Sakuja’s superb 2-18 stifled Shivamogga at 125 all-out; Mayank Agarwal and Vinay Kumar posted an 81-run partnership for the 2nd wicket and helped the team win the match with 19 balls to spare.
Agianst the Bulls too, Sakuja, Dubey and Sharath took regular wickets to restrict the opposition to 137 runs, which was chased down easily thanks to Agarwal’s unbeaten 74 from 57 deliveries. Kaunain Abbas and SK Jain contributed well to keep the scoreboard ticking and add depth to the batting line-up.
Seamers like Pradeep and medium pacers Sharath and Vinay Kumar have done well by putting up economical spells and they bring variety to the attack; the batting performance has been consistent and with a good game plan, they can yet again dominate on the field against Hubli.
The Tigers successful chased down a reduced target of 139 runs from 16 overs against Tuskers and won the match by 7 wickets; Mohammad Taha, who posted a heroic 52 off 36, continues to stabilize the top-order and can combine well with others like Reddy and Kapoor to keep the runs flowing. Negi and Chethan William contributed well to steer the team across the finish line in the last game; earlier William had also taken 3-20 with his pace skills and is a strong all-rounder.
In the match against Bijapur Bulls, Mohammad Taha powered the innings to 188 runs with his splendid 89 off 56 balls while Reddy scored a well-made 42; however, the bowlers were out of rhythm and were unable to restrict the opponents from scoring the big runs. Sreenath Aravind and Hoover took 3 wickets between them but they lost the match by 7 wickets.
The team has a strong top and middle order, which can outwit the Panthers bowlers here; if the bowling unit can provide quick breakthroughs and bowl economically, they can surely win again.
Both teams have won their last match and will fight hard to keep the momentum going; while the contest could go down to the wire, we feel that Belagavi Panthers with the experience of Vinay Kumar and Mayank Agarwal are placed better to emerge victorious on Thursday
