About the Match
Belagavi Panthers are on fire right now, topping the table with 6 points from 3 wins; they will take on Namma Shivamogga, who are currently in the 3rd place with 5 points, at Hubli on 16th September. Both sides come here at the back of a win and will be determined to dominate each other on Saturday. While the Panthers defeated Bellary Tuskers and Mysuru Warriors in recent outings, Shivamogga emerged victorious against Bengaluru Blasters but suffered defeat against Hubli Tigers previously. It will be interesting to see which of the teams can outwit the other and take their campaign further ahead.
Stalin Hoover’s well-made 62 helped them get to a decent total of 154 runs against Bellary Tuskers and then it was a superb performance by spinner Krishnappa Gowtham, who took 4-23, that stifled the opposition and took them to a 25-run margin victory. Shubang Hegde, captain Sreenath Aravind, and Kishore Kamat also took a wicket each to help them secure a win. Earlier, Manish Pandey had contributed well with 24 from 12 deliveries but others like Stuart Binny, Gowtham and Bharat failed to impress.
Batting first against Mysuru Warriors though, the batting line-up dominated as middle-order players Stuart Binny posted a well-made half-century and Rakshith, Manish Pandey and Kishore Kamat pitched in with 20+ runs each to take the total to 180. All-rounder Stuart Binny was useful with the ball as he took 2-23 while Darshan Machaiah and spinner Shubang Hegde dismissed 2 opponents each to stifle the opponents and win the match by a whopping 30 runs.
They have all-rounders like Binny and Gowtham, who are in-form with the ball and can add stability to the innings with the bat too. Sreenath Aravind, Hegde, Gowtham, and Darshan bring variety to the attack and could help the team overcome Shivamogga batsmen here.
Fast-bowlers Aditya Somanna and Pradeep T clinched 5 wickets between them against Bengaluru Blasters while spinner Abrar Kazi dismissed one opponent to help restrict the opponents to 142 runs. Middle-order batsman Anirudha Joshi then top-scored with a well-made 54 off 27 to steer the team towards victory by 4 wickets. Abdul Majid contributed with 40 runs and adds depth to the batting line-up. The team also has players like Liyan Khan, Nihal Ullal, Rongsen Jonathan and Shoaib Manager, who could keep the scoreboard ticking in the upcoming match.
Against Hubli Tigers they batted first and posted 167 runs as the target; however, a dismal show by the bowling squad led to a defeat by 7 wickets. Captain Balachandran Akhil and Pradeep T took a wicket each but others gave away too many easy runs. Earlier, Rongsen Jonathan top-scored with a well-made 69 while the in-form Anirudha Joshi posted a quick fire 31 off 13. Shoaib Manager and Liyan Khan contributed with 20+ runs each to get to the respectable 166.
They have had a mixed bag so far, winning two matches and losing two; they have good resources like Joshi, Jonathan, Manager and Liyan Khan, who can help set up a good total or chase one with ease. The bowlers are also doing well but they will need to be cautious against the in-form Panthers.
The Panthers are in better form in all departments of the game but Shivamogga has match-winners on its side too. The contest could be evenly fought but we feel that Panthers, who are on a winning momentum are better placed to emerge victorious on Saturday.
