We are three days into the Vincy Premier League and the things are beginning to shape-up nicely. Salt Pond Breakers are placed at the top of the table, but with La Soufriere Hikers and Botanic Garden Rangers breathing down their neck, the Breaks will not be feeling comfortable, yet. While the result of the match between Salt Pond Breakers and Botanic Garden Rangers is important, the Rangers will like to keep winning in their subsequent matches as well.
Up next in the tournament, the Rangers are set to lock horns with Grenadlines Divers, who have just posted an important win over Fort Charlotte Strikers. As it stands now, there is only a couple of points of difference between the two sides and a two matches can be enough to turn the table around. The match between two teams is to be played at Arnos Vale, St. Vincent, on Tuesday, 26th May.
With back to back wins after a sluggish start, Botanic Garden Rangers now seem to have found their range. They got off to a dreaful start as they lost their first match to La Soufriere Hikers by a reasonably big margin. However, they got their combination right in the next two matches and utilized Kesrick Williams well to post consecutive wins. They are currently placed at the fourth spot on the points table, but just a couple of favorable results should be enough to push them to the top of the ladder.
In a tournament where the average score hovered around 80-runs till the second day, the Garden Rangers surprised Dark View Explorers with a scintillating batting performance. After being put in to bat, the Rangers' batsmen executed their plans brilliantly. Hylus Shallow smashed 38 off 22 deliveries and he was ably assisted by Romel Currency, who was promoted up the order. Currency smashed 31 off 19 deliveries. The Rangers lost a couple of wickets towards the end of their innings and appeared to be losing way as well, but a cameo by Kenneth Dember propelled their total to 105, which proved to be too much to chase for the Explorers.
The ploy of opening the bowling with Kesrick Williams seems to be working well for the Rangers. Williams removed Lindon James in the first over of Explorers' innings and that paved the path for the other bowlers to pick wickets. Apart from Deron Greaves, none of the Explorers' batsmen looked in controlled as Rangers' bowlers bowled with remarkable discipline and picked up wickets at regular intervals. Williams picked up the wicket of Deron Greaves in the ninth over and killed the chase then and there.
On paper, the Rangers appear to be a fairly strong unit. Kesrick Williams is beatifully leading their bowling attack with other bowlers playing a vital supporting role. With the bat, Hyron Shallow, Romel Currency, and Kevin Abraham have done well and a lot will rest on their shoulders. As of now, there have been no reported injuries and the Botanic Garden Rangers are likely to continue with the same team.
Romel Currency, Oziko Williams, Hyron Shallow, Atticus Browne, Kevin Abraham, KOK Williams, Kenneth Dember, Kimali Williams, Nigel Small, Romario Bibby, Casnel Morris.
There isn't much time left in the tournament and this upcoming fixture is a matter of do-or-die for Fort Charlotte Strikers. They are yet to post a win in the tournament and are, therefore, placed at the bottom of the points table. They have played three matches so far and have the net run-rate of -2.026, which is worst among all teams.
The Strikers started off their campaign with a loss to Dark View Explorers and with two more losses in their next match matches, their campaign turned from bad to worse. They were recently defeated by Grenadlines Divers by a margin of 22-runs in a high-scoring encounter.
Bowling has been a major cause of concern for the Strikers as all their opponents so far have found it relatively easier to score against Strikers' bowlers. On paper, the Strikers appear to be having a balanced bowling attack, but with Keron Cottoy, Sealroy Williams, and Rasheed Fredericks underperforming, things aren't looking good for the Strikers.
Their performance in the last match was just another example of how poor they have been. Barring Rasheed Frederick, none of their bowlers looked impressive. Although Ray Jordan and Chelson Stowe picked up a wicket as well, they were too expensive to put any pressure on the Divers' batsmen. Eventually, the Divers ended up scoring a total of 114.
Their chase didn't start on a happy note as they lost Jahiel Walters in the second over. Keron Cottoy and Gidron Pope added 45 runs for the second wicket and kept their side in the hunt, but it all went downhill once Cottoy was dismissed. They continued to lose wickets at regular wickets and ended 22 runs short of the Divers' total. Gidron Pope played extraordinarily well for his 59, but the lack of support from the other end cost FCS the match.
Kenroy Williams, Ronald Scott, Renrick Williams, Gidron Pope, Keron cottoy, Kirton Lavia, Sealroy Williams, Sylvan Spencer, Chelson Stowe, Rasheed Frederick, Ray Jordan.
As we mentioned in one of our earlier tips, batting first might have an impact on the result of the game. On the fourth day as well, all three matches were won by the team batting first. Considering the last nine matches, the ratio of teams winning the match is now skewed 8-1 in favor of the team batting first. Considering that, winning the toss and batting first should be the way to go in the upcoming match as well.

The surface has been on the slower side in all the matches, but the totals that the teams are scoring are gradually increasing with every passing match. With batsmen now acquainted well with the conditions, there isn't much juice available in the surface for the quicker bowlers. Change of pace is going to be crucial and putting good deliveries away will be a challenge. Considering that, the team batting first should be looking to put at least a total of 90 runs on the board.

There's been a difference of day and night between the performance of the two sides. While Botanic Garden Rangers will be eyeing the top of the table spot from here, Fort Charlotte Strikers would do well to avoid the wooden spoon. The Strikers' batting appears to be a bit too over-reliant on Pope and that would be a cause of concern for their management. Considering the form as well as the on-paper combination of the two sides, placing your money on a Rangers' win should be the way to go here.
