Brisbane Heat suffered an embarrassing batting collapse against the Adelaide Strikers in their previous match and was left shell-shocked as they suffered a ten-wicket loss. The Melbourne Renegades, the other team in this match, finally managed to register its first win of BBL 09 in a rain-hit encounter against Sydney Thunder.
Both the team will face off at the Gabba where the rain has been pouring down and thunderstorms are predicted on the day of the match as well.
Brisbane Heat needs a win desperately otherwise it risks falling further behind the leaders and will eventually not be able to make the playoffs. The Melbourne Renegades don’t have any realistic hopes of making the playoffs but would like to upset some apple carts on their way out.
Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Renegades BBL 09 is going to be played at the Gabba, Brisbane on the 19th of January 2020.
Loading your batting with players that can smash the ball seems like a good tactic in T20 cricket and actually is on most days. One some other days, though, the batsmen fail in unison and the side looks very ordinary.
Brisbane Heat must forget the batting debacle of the last match and back its strengths.
On paper, the lineup of Chris Lynn, Max Bryant, AB de Villiers, Matt Renshaw, Joe Burns, Jimmy Pierson, and Ben Cutting should enjoy the conditions at the Gabba. Brisbane Heat has won two out of the three matches it has played at the Gabba this season and will be keen to replicate that form.
The ball comes on nicely to the bat and we think Chris Lynn is due for a big score. He and Matt Renshaw have been the best batsmen for Brisbane Heat. AB de Villiers is a batting genius that can make any surface look good and so what he could do at the Gabba is just mind-boggling.
Brisbane Heat’s bowling has been a bit patchy in the recent matches and needs some improvement. The previous match was an aberration and no attack could defend 100 but in general, the bowlers have not been executing their plans well.
Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mitchell Swepson will handle the spin-bowling duties while Josh Lalor, Ben Cutting, and Ben Laughlin will take care of the fast bowling. We think using Matt Renshaw to give the bowling attack some cushion is a good idea and should be used in this match.
Chris Lynn, Sam Heazlett, Matt Renshaw, AB de Villiers, Joe Burns , Jimmy Peirson, Ben Cutting, James Pattinson, Josh Lalor, Ben Laughlin, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
The Melbourne Renegades finally managed to win their first match of BBL 09 against Sydney Thunder thanks to a solid batting performance from its top-order. Shaun Marsh continued to be relentlessly consistent while Marcus Harris, Sam Harper, Beau Webster, and Daniel Christian all contributed as well.
The presence of Mohammad Nabi in the batting lineup gives it some much-needed depth. The primary problem of a lack of runs from Marcus Harris and Sam Harper is not going away very easily, though.
Both of these batsmen have struggled for runs and may find it difficult to keep scoring runs.
We are not confident at all about the Melbourne Renegades batting and don’t think it compares at all to the might that Brisbane Heat possesses.
The bowling for the Melbourne Renegades is pretty weak as well. Andrew Fekete, Jack Wildermuth, Samit Patel, Mohammad Nabi, Cameron Boyce, and Dan Christian bowled in the previous match. None of these bowlers are at the top-level of their country and don’t combine particularly well either.
We don’t see this bowling attack being able to stop Brisbane Heat from smashing it to pieces.
Shaun Marsh, Marcus Harris, Sam Harper, BJ Webster, Will Sutherland, DT Christian, Mohammad Nabi, SR Patel, JD Wildermuth, Cameron Boyce, Andrew Fekete.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first because of the rain around.

The weather is perhaps the biggest concern for Brisbane Heat heading into this match. There is a lot of rain expected on match day but the forecast does get a bit better as the time of the start approaches. Hopefully, we will be lucky and actually get to some cricket be played out.
The likelihood of a truncated match is very high, though.
