BH vs MLS Match Prediction - Dec 20, 2019

Stop us if you have heard this one before. Brisbane Heat comes into the BBL with a strong squad that is expected to blow everyone away and then proceeds to underwhelm everyone with its performances. That is exactly the start that we got to see in the first match when a much-vaunted Brisbane Heat lineup failed quite spectacularly. It will now face the Melbourne Stars, finalists from the previous season, and attempt to change things around.

The Melbourne Stars have a fit again Glenn Maxwell leading the side and a pretty solid set of players to call upon. The match is going to be played at the Carrara Oval and not the Gabba as the Big Bash continues to spread the game to smaller centers around Australia.

BH vs MLS Team Previews

Brisbane Heat

Not too many teams hit twice the number of sixes as their opponents and still end up on the losing side in a T20 match. That is the way of this Brisbane Heat side, though, that seems to be built to exhilarate. Tom Banton looked brilliant during his short stay at the crease and it appears as if Heat has a future international superstar on its hands.

Max Bryant, Chris Lynn, Matt Renshaw, and Ben Cutting all played a few good shots but could no turn their innings into anything significant. The batting approach applied by Brisbane Heat was high-octane and is going to come off spectacularly in one of the upcoming BBL matches but it will also fail a couple of times too.

The question is whether Brisbane Heat can get the consistency in its batting to start winning matches.

The bowling performance for Brisbane Heat was pretty good until the final few overs when they went for a lot of runs. Zahir Khan and Mitchell Swepson were brilliant for Brisbane Heat and kept the run-rate under control.

Mark Steketee, Ben Laughlin, and Josh Lalor all started well but could not finish as strongly as they would have wanted. The games come thick and fast in the BBL and there is not too much time for these players to brood. They must get ready for the next match and come as hard as they can.

Melbourne Stars

The Melbourne Stars cam very close to winning the BBL in the previous season and they have added some good players to make their squad even stronger. A few changes in the Australia international set-up have also meant that they are going to have more access to some of their best players during this Big Bash.

Nic Maddinson and Ben Dunk joined the Stars last season but were not able to have the kind of impact they would have wanted. They are proven domestic performers that would like to get off to a better start this time around.

The core of the batting is composed of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Peter Handscomb. These are three quality international players that have a point to prove. The T20 World Cup is to be held in Australia in just over a couple of months and all three are in the running to find a spot.

Hilton Cartwright, another all-round addition this season is going to add some much-needed depth to the batting.

Nathan Coulter-Nile, Adam Zampa, and Dale Steyn are expected to be in the lineup for the Stars. They could go with Pat Brown or Sandeep Lamichhane as the conditions dictate to round out their attack.

We think this is a very strong bowling side and has everything that the team needs to compete in whatever conditions they are offered. Getting this strong squad of players to perform to their potential is the trick now.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather forecast for Queensland is excellent and no rain is expected to fall on match day. The pitch at the Carrara Oval should be good for batting although it will not have the bounce that the Gabba offers.

Batting second is going to be the way to go because the teams would like to see how the pitch behaves.

BH vs MLS Betting Tips

These are two strong teams that are pretty closely matched. Brisbane Heat has more flamboyant power in its side but the Melbourne Stars are not lacking in that department either. Both teams also have a well-balanced bowling attack. It is ultimately going to come down to the conditions on the day but we think the Melbourne Stars may be a more dependable bet here.

Bet on the Melbourne Stars to win.
