BH vs PER Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Feb 01, 2019
Its a bottom of the table clash in the Big Bash League as Brisbane Heat takes on the Perth Scorchers. This has been a strange season for the two teams which were billed as one of the favorites leading up into the tournament. Nothing seems to have gone right and it looks now they are both waiting for the misery to be over.
There are three more matches to go for both the sides including this one. Both teams have won just three out of their eleven matches in BBL 08 although Brisbane Heat has one more point thanks to the lucky no-result it got against Sydney Thunder.
It is difficult to say which team is performing worse between these two and this could be an interesting match to watch for this very reason. Brisbane Heat will be hosting the Perth Scorchers at the Gabba in this match.
BH vs PER Team Previews
Brisbane Heat
There has been a strange lethargy about the manner in which Brisbane Heat has played this season. A large part of that can be down the form and attitude of Chris Lynn. Not only is Chris Lynn the most important batsman in the Brisbane Heat side, but he is also the captain. He started BBL 08 with some good scores but has completely tapered off.
He has also been pretty public about the BBL being too long, too many matches, and the players being exhausted. This is not professional behavior from a player of Chris Lynn’s stature and will rub off on his teammates as well.
Brisbane Heat has been very poor on the batting front and the blame has to go the much-vaunted top-order. Chris Lynn, Brendon McCullum, and Max Bryant have been below par and extremely inconsistent. They are given the license to play freely but that tactic has just not worked out.
Alex Ross and Jimmy Pierson scored runs in the last game to give some respectability to the Brisbane Heat total. Their good form adds some depth to the batting lineup that also has Ben Cutting to call upon. The Gabba is an excellent batting surface and on paper, Brisbane Heat has one of the strongest batting lineups in the entire competition.
Cricket, though, is not played on paper and the realities of their current form are hard to ignore.
The bowling has been below average also. Mujeeb Ur Rahman is having a difficult time in Australia while Ben Cutting seems to be one of the most expensive bowlers in all the matches. Doggett and Lalor are the two bowlers who have bowled well in BBL 08. Mitchell Swepson is also not able to have the kind of control or success he had in years past.
Brisbane Heat Playing 11
Max Bryant, Brendon McCullum, Chris Lynn, Matt Renshaw, Alex Ross, Jimmy Peirson, Ben Cutting, Jack Prestwidge, Josh Lalor, Matt Kuhnemann, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Perth Scorchers
Nothing the Perth Scorchers have tried has gone right for them this season. They were at the end of a brilliant inning from Phillipe and Vince against the Sydney Sixers and then collapsed miserably against the Melbourne Renegades.
They now have nothing to gain in BBL 08 but they can play for pride. The Perth Scorchers team actually appeared to be more balanced this year than in previous seasons of the Big Bash League. Their batting seemed to have more depth thanks to the return of Cameron Bancroft and now the availability of the Marsh brothers.
The loss of some of their fast bowlers to international duty was expected and they have the reserves to be able to withstand that in any case.
Still, there has been something missing which has prevented the side from winning more matches.
We think the Perth Scorchers will enjoy coming and playing at the Gabba. The surface is one that should suit them. Their fast bowling attack led by Nathan Coulter-Nile, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, and Matthew Kelly should be able to exploit the bounce this surface usually offers.
Mitchell Marsh also offers them another bowling option while Usman Qadir will like the big boundaries to work with.
Similarly, the batsmen in the Perth Scorchers should find this similar to what they back at home in the Perth Stadium. Forget the batting failure in their previous match. The Perth Scorchers have an excellent batting lineup with Cameron Bancroft, Shaun Marsh, Mitchell Marsh, and Ashton Turner leading the batting unit.
There is Hilton Cartwright and Nick Hobson in the middle order as well.
The batting had a collective failure in the previous match but this is the same side that ended up scoring close to 200 one match before that.
Perth Scorchers Playing 11
CT Bancroft, Shaun Marsh, Josh Inglis, AJ Turner, Mitchell Marsh, Nick Hobson, Clint Hinchliffe, AJ Tye, Matthew Kelly, Jason Behrendorff, U Qadir.
