It’s quite the disparate matchup with the second-place Scorchers (12 points) taking on the seventh-place Heat (5 points) at the Gabba in Brisbane. Perth looks fantastic with four wins in their last five games, while the Heat have just one win in five (although one was a No Result due to bad weather).

The Heat are certainly gutted that their star batter, Colin Munro (278 runs) will depart the team to play in the UAE, as he was one of the few bright spots in the side. Sam Billings is also out, but the addition of Ross Whiteley and Sam Hain is better news.
However, the best part about the Heat’s lineup is the return of Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja after their time in Australia’s Test squad. Labuschagne’s 204* against the Windies and Khawaja’s 195* versus South Africa were just two outstanding scores to prove that these batters are in amazing form.
Batter Jimmy Peirson’s 168 runs are much-needed with the departure of Munro, but the Heat are still a bit iffy with bowling and giving up far too many easy runs, which could explain their position on the BBL ladder. Bowlers Michael Neser and Mark Steketee are typically big names, although each has only picked up 10 wickets so far.

Perth has a few alterations to a great squad, most notably the departure of batters Faf du Plessis and Adam Lyth. Although Lyth wasn’t so much help with 73 runs from seven innings, du Plessis was an important part of the team with 163 runs.
There’s also the news that Mitch Marsh and Cameron Green are done for the season with injuries, as well as star bowler Jhye Richardson needing 2-3 weeks to recover from a hamstring strain. It’s not all bad, however, as Perth has brought in England's Stephen Eskinazi (scored just one run so far) and bowler David Payne, while Lance Morris and Ashton Agar can also help with bowling duties after their time in the national side.
Perth has tonnes of great batting options right now, with Ashton Turner (217), Aaron Hardie (202), Josh Inglis (246), and Cameron Bancroft (124) all able to contribute solid runs on any match. Bancroft was especially impressive with his 76* against the Heat. Even without Richardson to bowl for some time, Andrew Tye (16 wickets) and Jason Behrendorff (12) can help the bowling attack to flourish.

The Gabba is a renowned pitch that suits pace bowlers for swing and bounce. Big scores of around 170 are not uncommon for T20 games, however.

There’s no doubt the Scorchers remain the favourite, but the odds for this Heat team are worth a try. Perth is 12-7 over Brisbane and has won the last four games, so surely the Heat’s time is now, right?
The boost of Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja is big, even if Munro’s batting will be sorely missed. If Neser and Steketee can take two wickets each and only give up around 25 runs, then the Heat will have a great chance for a victory. This is Brisbane’s best opportunity with du Plessis and Richardson out for Perth.
