The Big Bash League has been rocketing along and it's only the Hobart Hurricanes that have separated themselves from the rest of the teams. All the other teams are just within one win of each other.
This BBL08 match will see Brisbane Heat take on the Sydney Sixers at the Carrara Oval.
Brisbane Heat has played two matches in the Big Bash so far and lost both of them. Sydney Sixers, on the other hand, has won two out of the four matches that it has played. Brisbane Heat was one of the more fancied sides coming into the competition but it has struggled to get its combination right.
They have had some time off going into this match and will be hoping to finally get on the board.
The batting order of Brisbane Heat is very strong on paper. They have Brendon McCullum, Max Bryant, Chris Lynn, Joe Burns, Sam Heazlett, Ben Cutting and Jimmy Pierson as a part of their batting unit.
Every single player in this lineup is an explosive batsman and a potential match-winner.
Of course, when it comes to the Big Bash, there is no bigger player than Chris Lynn. He made his name by bashing bowlers all over Australia and that is exactly what he is expected to this time too. The problem seems to be that the weight of these expectations seems to be weighing down Chris Lynn.
He has not had a very good time in international cricket and has struggled to find the right pace of play in the Big Bash as well.
Brendon McCullum has not spent any time in the middle so we can’t really say if he is in good form or not. We are backing Joe Burns to score the most runs for Brisbane Heat in the upcoming match against Sydney Sixers.
Burns has the temperament, the class, and the power to play a big knock.
If Ben Cutting and Jimmy Pierson can continue to contribute runs in the lower order then Brisbane Heat should find itself in a good position.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman will play a big role in the bowling for Brisbane Heat. He picked up two wickets in his previous match and was very difficult to score off. Mitch Swepson went for plenty of runs but he is a proven BBL performer as well.
With Lalor, Steketee, and Cutting as well, Brisbane Heat has a decent bowling attack that should do pretty well in the Big Bash League.
Brendon McCullum, Max Bryant, Chris Lynn, Sam Heazlett, Joe Burns , Ben Cutting, Jimmy Peirson, James Pattinson, Josh Lalor, Mitchell Swepson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
The Sydney Sixers won a low scoring match against Melbourne Renegades in their previous match. It was an important win for the Sydney Sixers that have struggled in the tournament so far. The problem for the Sydney Sixers has been their batting.
Jack Edwards has found the step up to Big Bash Cricket a little tough and Joe Denly has not yet got going. Daniel Hughes and Moises Henriques have got starts but they seem to be finding it difficult to build big innings as well.
This has meant a lot of work for Jordan Silk, Josh Philippe, and Tom Curran.
This is not something that can continue working for the Sydney Sixers. Silk and Phillipe are decent players but they are not going to score match-winning totals too many times. Similarly, Tom Curran is flourishing as an all-rounder but he is not someone we would like to see in the middle with too many runs to get.
The Sydney Sixers top order has to be better otherwise they are going to lose more matches than not.
The spinners have made the Sydney Sixers bowling a handful. Steve O’Keefe has been bowling very well and is difficult to score of as well. Manenti made his debut in the previous match and bowled superbly. His four overs went for just 13 runs and he took two wickets as well.
With Tom Curran establishing himself as a genuine death bowler, Sean Abbott, and Ben Dwarshius in there as well, the Sydney Sixers bowling is definitely one to take seriously.
They are going to up against a really strong batting and we feel it is going to come down to the performance of the spinners once again.
J Avendano, Joe Denly, Daniel Hughes, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Josh Philippe, Tom Curran, Sean Abbott, Steve O'Keefe, B Dwarshuis, Benjamin Manenti.
The team winning the toss is likely to want to bat first
The BBL 08 match between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers is going to be played at the Carrara Oval, Queensland. The weather forecast on match day is excellent and there should be no interruptions.
The pitch is expected to good for batting even though it may take a bit of spin later on.
The Sydney Sixers are coming into this match on the back of a win but they have not really played very convincing cricket so far. We believe this is a good opportunity for Brisbane Heat to win their first BBL 08 match. Their superior batting should win them the day.
Back Brisbane Heat to win.
