BH vs SYD Match Prediction - Jan 02, 2021

The Big Bash season so far has been full of misery for Brisbane Heat. It seems to find itself in close situations that it cannot close out. As a result, it has just one win in the BBL so far and is now going to be playing the leaders of the tournament, the Sydney Sixers.

Sydney Sixers have been very good after a loss in their opening match. A unique strategy of loading their side with all-rounders seems to be paying off and is allowing them a lot of flexibility.

Can they continue their winning run or will Brisbane Heat strike back?

Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers BBl 2020-21 is going to be played at the Gabba, Brisbane on the 2nd of January 2021.

BH vs SYD Team Previews

Brisbane Heat

Brisbane Heat continues to find some truly remarkable ways to lose matches and no one could have come closer to not losing than it did in its previous match against the Hobart Hurricanes. An outstretched bat was beyond the crease but in the air and as a result, Brisbane Heat ended up losing by one run.

The good thing is that Joe Burns is back with the squad but the bad thing is that his form has been horrific. There is a massive difference between the red ball and the white ball formats so a player of his class cannot be counted out.

Brisbane Heat’s batting is a big concern. They are without Chris Lynn and none of their other options seem to be firing. Losing Matt Renshaw was a big mistake and the rest of the players are just not matching up.

Jimmy Pierson and James Bazley have been quite impressive in the lower order and maybe they could get a promotion.

Mujeeb ur Rahman took five wickets in the previous match and looked in great form. Xavier Bartlett had a good game as well, as did Jack Wildermuth and Mark Steketee. The bowling attack is looking pretty decent with most of the leading players in form.

Brisbane Heat Playing 11

Jimmy Peirson, Joe Burns, Max Bryant, Joe Denly, Jack Wildermuth, Lewis Gregory, James Bazley, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Xavier Bartlett, Mark Steketee, Matt Kuhnemann.

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers have made it a habit of winning matches from losing positions and it was Jason Holder that continued to improve his T20 reputation by smashing 16 runs off the last over!

The Sixers have compromised a bit on their bowling by loading their side with all-rounders known for their power hitting. As a result, they have Dan Christian, Jason Holder, and Carlos Brathwaite at numbers 6,7, and 8 respectively.

No other side has that kind of batting depth or power at its disposal and it means that counting out the Sydney Sixers after a few early wickets is just not possible.

With a top-order that is firing and players like Josh Philipe, James Vinces, Daniel Hughes, Jack Edwards, and Jordan Silk all in form, the Sydney Sixers have one of the strongest and most resilient batting lineups in the tournament.

The bowling is a bit iffy. The team has to look for close to 10 overs from its all-rounders and that can be dangerous. Ben Manenti, Ben Dwarshius, and Steve O’Keefe are the other bowlers. They have been known to be quite expensive in the past as well.

This is the area where the Sydney Sixers can be put under pressure by a strong batting opponent.

Sydney Sixers Playing 11

Josh Philippe, James Vince, Daniel Hughes, Jordan Silk, Jack Edwards, DT Christian, Carlos Brathwaite, Steve O'Keefe, Jackson Bird, Ben Dwarshuis, Benjamin Manenti.

BH vs SYD Toss Prediction

We think that the team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. The Gabba is going to serve up a pitch that is not going to change over the course of one T20 match and so winning the toss is not a huge advantage.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

There is no rain predicted for match day in Brisbane and so we should hopefully have no interruptions to worry about. The pitch is going to be fast and bounce like surfaces at the Gabba are. In T20 matches, this means a lot of runs are on offer but the bowlers can get their own back by putting in a big effort as well. The large boundaries are going to keep the spinners interested as well.

A total of around 170 is going to be seen as par by the team batting first.

BH vs SYD Betting Tips

We are going to stick with the Sydney Sixers in this match. They just seem to have too deep a batting lineup when compared to Brisbane Heat. Current form, better balance, and more power all give the edge to the Sydney Sixers.

Bet on the Sydney Sixers to win.
