The group stages of BBL 09 are about to come to an end. There is nothing that has been more frustrating this season than to watch Brisbane Heat continue to underperform even with a wealth of talent at its disposal.
With just three games to go for Brisbane Heat, the time to find their best selves is now.
Up against them are the Sydney Sixers, a formidable opponent that is currently on the second spot in the BBL League table. Not only are the Sydney Sixers coming into this match with a win against the Melbourne Stars but they are also strengthened by the return of Steve Smith to the side.
After a long time, we have the best Australian international players available for BBL and it should raise the level of the cricket even further.
Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers BBL 09 is going to be played at the Gabba, Brisbane on the 23rd of January 2020.
A shocking defeat to the Melbourne Renegades would have angered the Brisbane Heat management and Chris Lynn made no bones about what he thought about the performance either. The task ahead of Brisbane Heat to qualify for the BBL finals is still pretty straightforward.
Brisbane Heat must try to win all three of its remaining matches or a minimum of two to have a reasonable chance of qualification. One win may also be enough but that would require a lot of things going their way.
Brisbane Heat has not played well at the Gabba traditionally and that is a bit surprising. The Gabba churns out some of the best T20 batting wickets in the country and Brisbane Heat is loaded with powerful batting stars.
The power on paper has to perform on the ground, though, and that is where Brisbane Heat is having trouble. Chris Lynn, AB de Villiers, Matt Renshaw, Joe Burns, and Ben Cutting are all brilliant T20 players but they seem to be stuck in some sort of alternate reality where they are just walking wickets.
The addition of Marnus Labuschagne could be the missing link that ties it all together. Labuschagne has been having a brilliant season which will be career-defining in the long run. A couple of memorable T20 performances are all that he needs.
The bowling is going to be led by Mujeeb ur Rahman, Ben Laughlin, James Pattinson, and Josh Lalor. Once again, not a bad lineup at all with the likes of Ben Cutting and Matt Renshaw to contribute as needed.
Chris Lynn, Sam Heazlett, Matt Renshaw, AB de Villiers, Marnus Labuschagne, Jimmy Peirson, Ben Cutting, James Pattinson, Mitchell Swepson, Ben Laughlin, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
The Sydney Sixers were helped by a brilliant batting performance from Moises Henriques who was back to his best in the previous match. He smashed eight sixes in his 31 ball stay that put the match beyond the Melbourne Stars.
Now, with Henriques in form and Steve Smith returning to the side, the Sydney Sixers have perhaps their strongest batting lineup of BBL 09 yet.
We think Justin Avendano may be the one to miss-out from the previous match from the Sydney Sixers lineup. This is the first match where the Sydney Sixers seem to have a decent batting depth in their side which makes them a stronger opponent than any time prior.
The Sixers also have a very good bowling attack led by Tom Curran, Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird, and Steve O’Keefe. The lineup is almost completely made up of international players who have plenty of experience.
The Sixers were at the receiving end of a brutal attack from Chris Lynn in their previous match against Brisbane Heat and are not going to take things easy. They will know however that the Heat lineup is pretty brittle and can be put under pressure with some early wickets.
Josh Philippe, Daniel Hughes, J Vince, Steven Smith, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Tom Curran, B Dwarshuis, Nathan Michael Lyon, JM Bird, Steve O'Keefe.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first.

There is some rain predicted in Brisbane on match day but thankfully the forecast improves around the time that the match is scheduled to start. We could have a delayed start and some reduction in the total overs, though.
The pitch at the Gabba is reliable for being the best batting wicket that we see in the entire BBL. There is pace in the wicket which helps the ball come on to the bat nicely and the bowlers always seem to be in the game as well.
The spinners are often the ones that make like difficult for the batsmen at this ground.

Brisbane Heat is a bit undervalued by the markets right now and we think this is a good time to go in on them. Their batting lineup is superb and we don’t think they can continue to collapse as they have been in the last few matches. The previous record against the Sydney Sixers is also something that goes in favor of Brisbane Heat.
Bet on Brisbane Heat to win.
