Brisbane Heat is going to host the Sydney Thunder as the two teams meet for the second time in BBL 08. Their previous meeting was just about 10 days ago in which Brisbane Heat won a rain-affected match. Both the teams have won their previous match and will bring a lot of confidence into this game.
Sydney Thunder has had to make a few big changes to its side because of Jos Buttler and Joe Root leaving the tournament while Brisbane Heat is a pretty settled side.
This match is going to be played at the Gabba, a venue where Sydney Thunder has never won a match against Brisbane Heat in the history of the Big Bash League. Sydney Thunder is second on the BBL League Table right now while Brisbane Heat is sixth.
The teams are so close to each other, though, that Brisbane Heat should move straight to second place if it wins this match.
Brisbane Heat was believed to have one of the strongest batting lineups in the Big Bash League this season. They took a little while to get started but now the full potential of this lineup is being realized. Max Bryant, Brendon McCullum, and Chris Lynn have been scoring runs pretty consistently and all three batsmen get their runs at an astronomical strike rate.
Brisbane Heat had scored 70 runs in 6.4 overs in their previous match before Max Bryant got out. A start like sets the stage for the batsmen down the order and its not like Brisbane Heat is short of power there either.
We think betting one of these three batsmen to be the highest scorer for Brisbane Heat or even the match is a good idea. Max Bryant is one of the batsmen that we like and believe is about to get a really big score very soon.
There was an interesting change made by Brisbane Heat in the last match as they brought in Alex Ross in place of Joe Burns. We would have thought that Matt Renshaw was the player that was more vulnerable to being dropped but that was not to be.
In any case, Renshaw, Ross, Cutting, and Pierson also make for a very strong lower order.
Brisbane Heat’s batting order is looking stronger than any other BBL team right now.
Brisbane Heat’s bowling had an excellent day against the Melbourne Renegades. The fact that they were up against a depleted batting lineup also helped but the bowlers also bowled very well.
We think they will have a tougher task against Sydney Thunder, especially if Shane Watson gets going. Brendan Doggett and Josh Lalor have been quite impressive and we would choose between one of them to bet on for the top wicket-taker.
Max Bryant, Brendon McCullum, Chris Lynn, Alex Ross, Ben Cutting, Jimmy Peirson, Josh Lalor, Jack Prestwidge, Brendan Doggett, Mitchell Swepson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Sydney Thunder played its first BBL 08 match without Jos Buttler and ended up winning comfortably. The addition of Anton Devcich and Chris Jordan has provided some interesting options to Sydney Thunder which could help them in the long run.
For one thing, both the players can contribute with the ball. In the case of Chris Jordan, his bowling is exceptional during the end overs and his fielding is brilliant too. Anton Devcich is more of a batting all-rounder and his main contribution is going to come opening the batting with Shane Watson.
If Devcich can get into the kind of batting form he showed at the Caribbean Premier League then he is going to be very tough to stop. Shane Watson played a bruising inning of 68 which included five sixes as well.
Watson is now the premier batsman in the Sydney Thunder side and needs to be consistent at scoring runs. Without his contribution, his side could struggle.
Callum Ferguson may not have scored runs in the previous match but he is in pretty good form while Jason Sangha getting a promotion in the batting order is good news too. The lower order of Sydney Thunder is not very dependable and definitely has less power than Brisbane Heat.
Sydney Thunder is up against a very strong batting side and so its bowling must be on point. Fawad Ahmed is going to have a huge role to play in trying to get wickets and will be helped by some pretty long boundaries as well.
The pace bowling options of Sydney Thunder have been a bit erratic although Daniel Sams is currently third on the list of top wicket-takers in BBL 08.
Anton Devcich, SR Watson, Callum Ferguson, Daniel Sams, Arjun Nair, Jay Lenton, Jonathan Cook, Christopher Green, Chris Jordan, Fawad Ahmed, Gurinder Sandhu.

The BBL 08 match between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder is going to be played at the Gabba, Brisbane. The weather is expected to be sunny and clear on match day.
The pitch at the Gabba is fast, bouncy, and has something in it for both batsmen and bowlers. It is usually a high scoring venue and we think plenty of runs should be scored in this match as well.
Brisbane Heat has beaten Sydney Thunder in seven out of the eight times they have met in the past. Sydney Thunder has never won a match at the Gabba either. With the batsmen finding form and bowling pretty good too, Brisbane Heat should be able to win this match.
Back Brisbane Heat to win.
