BH vs SYT Match Prediction - Dec 19, 2021

Big Bash League is set to resume its splendid journey after breaking for four days. For some teams, this break would have come in as a welcome change from a packed schedule whereas for some it could also prove to be a break in momentum. Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder were both having a rough time in the competition before the break and they will both be looking to turn things around in the competition going forward.

To mark the resumption of the tournament after the break, Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder are set to take on each other in an important contest that will be played at Brisbane Cricket Ground, Woolloongabba, Brisbane on 19th December 2021. Both these sides will be desperate to get into the thick of things and are likely to come out all guns blazing. A cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.

BH vs SYT Team Previews

Brisbane Heat

Brisbane Heat got off to a terrible start in the Big Bash League 2021 and just when they were looking to be down and out, they scored a much-needed win over Melbourne Renegades to get off the mark. Make no mistake, though - they are still a long way from making a mark in the competition and will need at least a couple of back to back wins to get back into the thick of things, as far as being in the top-four is concerned.

As it currently stands, Brisbane Heat are placed at the seventh spot on the ladder with four points to their name, coming from one win in three matches. One thing that weighs in their favor is that even though they have lost most of their matches, their net run rate still stands at a manageable figure of -0.061. A win here in this match would likely bring their net run rate into the positives, though it doesn't matter much as of now.

After suffering consecutive defeats at the hands of Sydney Thunder and Perth Scorchers respectively, Brisbane Heat finally came into their own as they defeated Melbourne Renegades by a healthy margin of five wickets with 19 balls to spare. Bowling first on a decent wicket, their bowlers contributed to perfection, restricting Renegades to just 140 after they got off to a flier. They did look in a spot of bother at one point during their chase, but a calm and responsible innings from Sam Heazlett saw them home with plenty of resources to spare.

Brisbane Heat's major strength is arguably their swashbuckling top-order that consists of Chris Lynn, Max Bryant, and Ben Duckett. They do bat deep with the likes of Jimmy Peirson and James Bazley available and that could prove to be a factor in crunch situations. On the bowling front as well, Brisbane Heat have a balanced unit that is coming off an exceptional outing. Barring Xavier Bartlett, all of their bowlers did a fine job against Renegades and together, as a bowling unit, should be brimming with confidence.

Brisbane Heat had a similar kind of start in the last edition as well and they then went on to do really well in the competition. With a recent win, they seem to be following a similar trajectory and if their experienced folks are able to play to their potential, Brisbane Heat have all the resources to be a dominating force not only in the upcoming contest but also in the remainder of the tournament.

Brisbane Heat Playing 11

Max Bryant, Chris Lynn, Ben Duckett, Sam Heazlett, TB Abell, Jimmy Peirson, James Bazley, Xavier Bartlett, Mark Steketee, Mitchell Swepson, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

Sydney Thunder

Placed sixth on the points table, Sydney Thunder are sitting just one spot above Brisbane Heat, but it all can change with their performance in this upcoming match. A win for Thunder will likely take them to the third spot whereas a loss would push Brisbane Heat above them on the ladder. As of now, Thunder have five points to their name coupled with the net run rate of -0.122.

Sydney Thunder started off their campaign in a remarkable fashion, registering a thunderous win over Brisbane Heat, but then soon lost the plot as they were defeated in consecutive matches by Melbourne Stars. In their first match against Stars, they failed to chase down a competitive total of 165 despite being in a pretty comfortable position to do so at one stage. The margin of their loss was more pronounced in their second match against Stars as they lost the match by six wickets with the Stars having 17 balls to spare when they chased down the target.

In all of the three matches played so far, Sydney Thunder have arguably struggled to score quickly. It was the same in their previous match too as they were restricted to a total of 151 batting first on a rather flat deck. Had it not been for a fantastic 77-run knock by Alex Ross, they would have struggled to even get into the three figures. On the bowling front, however, Sydney Thunder have done a decent job with their outing in the last match being an exception.

On paper, Sydney Thunder have a decent unit, but most of their batting firepower is concentrated in their middle order. The likes of Sam Whiteman and Matthew Gilkes are both fairly young. That puts that wee bit of extra pressure on Alex Hales to not only get Thunder to a fast start, but to also ensure that they do not lose too many wickets early in their innings. In their middle-order, however, the likes of Sam Billings, Alex, Ross, Daniel Sams, and Ben Cutting provide the much-needed comfort, which can be crucial if things get tight. Sydney Thunder's bowling look settled with the likes of Daniel Sams, Gurinder Sandhu, Tanveer Sangha, Ben Cutting, and Nathan McAndrew doing well.

All in all, the concentration of the firepower in the middle could be a bit of concern for the Thunder and if their youngsters are able to deliver well at the top, Sydney Thunder will be well and truly in business.

Sydney Thunder Playing 11

AD Hales, M Gilkes, Jason Sangha, Sam Billings, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Ben Cutting, Nathan McAndrew, Christopher Green, Saqib Mahmood, Tanveer Sangha.

BH vs SYT Toss Prediction

This is a venue with large boundaries and hitting big sixes might not come in easy. Given that, knowing how much to score could prove to be a blessing here. Also, the fact that batting might well get easier under lights will make chasing that wee bit easier. Considering all those reasons, the captain winning the toss is elected to field first.

Pitch and Conditions

The Gabba features a surface that has good pace and even carry through to the wicket keeper. Batsmen enjoy their time once set and the fast bowlers can have a telling impact at this venue. It will be all about negotiating the first few overs and then going for the big ones. Having said that, powerplay performance could still prove to be a decisive factor. These are the early days in the competition and the surface is likely to stay the same over the course of forty overs and it is only going to get better under lights. A total of around 165 will be par here and the team batting first would want to score at least 10-15 runs more than that.

BH vs SYT Betting Tips

These two sides have already met in the tournament before and Sydney Thunder then emerged on top by quite some margin. Having said that, a lot has changed for both these sides since that match. Sydney Thunder have suffered two consecutive losses and Brisbane Heat just found their way back to the winning wins. Considering the very recent record in the competition, Brisbane Heat seem ahead. Brisbane Heat also have a slightly better side on paper with experience available right through. Besides, they are playing at their home turf, which provides them another bit of slight advantage. Considering the factors stated above, we will be placing our bets on a Brisbane Heat win and so should you.

Tanveer Sangha has impressed one and all in recent times with the kind of performances he has exhibited even while playing against teams having good players of spin bowling. Brisbane Heat aren't particularly known for their strength against the spinners and Sangha can play a key role here. He is coming off a fantastic performance in his previous match and should be brimming with confidence. Bet on him to be the best bowler of the day for Thunder. This is a risky one, but with the odds on offer, it certainly cannot be ignored.

Also, the teams are slowly and steadily getting acquainted with the surfaces, which is evident by the strings of high-scoring games recently. Considering that and the other factors, we expect this match, as well, to be a high-scoring affair. Bet on the total runs to be scored in this match to exceed 324.5.

Chris Lynn looked in a dangerous mood before getting dismissed in the last match. He smashed 32 runs off just 15 balls and will be looking to continue from where he left off. He is a natural six-hitter and should be able to hit at least a couple of them in this upcoming match. A decent bat for those looking to play it safe.
