Things are tougher for the two-time defending champions of the WBBL, Brisbane Heat, this season than they have been in a long time. The team has had a mixed start to the season with one win and two losses to its name so far.
This match against the Melbourne Stars is going to be the second match of the weekend and so it will have another result by the time this one gets under way. The Melbourne Stars have two wins in their previous two matches and are looking in good form.
They are led by the brilliant Meg Lanning, who already has two fifty-plus scores to her name.
Brisbane Heat vs Melbourne Stars WBBL 2020 is going to be played at the North Sydney Oval, Sydney on the 8th of November 2020.
Brisbane Heat was always going to find batting a tougher task without Beth Mooney. She was their best batter by a fair distance and without her, the side has to find a new opening partnership. So far, the combination of Maddy Green and Georgia Redmayne has not been very fruitful for them.
Jess Jonassen has been exceptional in her all-round role but she needs one of the top-order batters to find some form very soon. Maybe Laura Kimmince or Grace Harris moving back to the top of the inning is something that Brisbane Heat can try.
Having trouble with your batting is not a good situation to be in when you are about to take on an in-form Meg Lanning led Melbourne Stars.
Jess Jonassen is the leader of the bowling attack as well. Here she has more support and overall, we think Brisbane Heat has a better bowling attack than the Melbourne Stars. Georgia Prestwidge, Nadine de Klerk, and Delissa Kimmince are all very decent bowlers that can give the Melbourne Stars a run for their money.
The tendency for Jess Jonassen to lift her game against stronger opponents is also something to be considered here.
Grace Harris, Georgia Redmayne, Jess Jonassen, Maddy Green, Laura Harris, Amelia Kerr, Nadine de Klerk, Georgia Voll, Georgia Prestwidge, Courtney Sippel, Nicola Hancock.
The Melbourne Stars have hit their stride with two wins in two matches. Meg Lanning is in great form and that bodes very well for them. We always have thought that the WBBL has not seen the best of Meg Lanning and this could be the season that she turns it around.
If we just compare batting strength, the Melbourne Stars are better placed than Brisbane Heat. Meg Lanning, Elyse Villani, Mignon du Preez, Nate Sciver, and Annabel Sutherland are a formidable batting unit.
They should be able to get more than enough runs in most matches this WBBL.
Most of Melbourne Stars’s matches in this season of the WBBL have been high-scoring. This could be because the bowling attack that the Stars possess is not the strongest.
Nate Sciver and Katherine Brunt are consistent but they are not running through any sides. The lack of early wickets allows the opposition to line up the weaker bowlers that come afterward.
The Melbourne Stars need a way to find more wickets up front and for their follow-up bowlers to keep the runs down because Meg Lanning is not going to be able to bail them out every single time.

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. As the matches increase at the same venue, the ball will start to come on slower and batting second may be more difficult.

The conditions at the North Sydney Oval are expected to be good for batting. This is one of the matches that follows many others on the same venue and so we could see some wear and tear appear but so far none of the venues has had anything much in it for the bowlers.
A score of around 140 is going to be very competitive batting first.
We think the Melbourne Stars are the team to back in this match. They have a better batting lineup and with Meg Lanning in good form, it looks likely they will continue their recent winning form. Brisbane Heat is a bit too dependent on Jess Jonassen right now.
Bet on the Melbourne Stars to win.
