Women's Big Bash League resumes after breaking for a short break of a couple of days and we have three scintillating matches on the cards. In the second match of the day, Brisbane Heat Women are set to take on Perth Scorchers Women in what is expected to be one of the most important matches of the tournament up until now. Perth Scorchers have played only one game up until now and faced a defeat in that. Another loss here would push them closer to the bottom of the table whereas a win would take them amongst the top-four sides. With stakes running high for both sides, a nail-biting encounter is on the cards. The match is to be played on 26th October at Allan Border Field, Brisbane.
Unlike the Scorchers, Brisbane Heat Women have played two matches in total and have one win to their name. Their only win came against Sydney Sixers, who are prime candidates to top the table in this competition. Consequently, Brisbane Heat are placed at the third spot in the points table with two points to their name and a terrific net run-rate of 2.055.
After posting a superb win over Sydney Sixer, of 92 runs, Brisbane Heat failed to repeat a similar kind of performance against Thunder. Their loss came as a surprise, especially considering their performance against Sydney Sixers because it was their bowlers who failed to put any brakes whatsoever on the scoring rate of the Thunder.
Batting first on a seemingly good batting deck, Brisbane Heat Women managed to put up a decent total of 150 runs on the board. The total looked good at the midway stage, but their bowlers failed to deliver as the Thunder eventually chased it down with seven wickets in hand and seven balls to spare. Grace Harris, who picked up a wicket at the expense of 19 runs, was the pick of their bowlers.
Beth Mooney, Kirby Short, Laura Harris, Maddy Green, Mikayla Hinkley, Jess Jonassen, Grace Harris, Sammy Jo Johnson, Delissa Kimmince, Amelia Kerr, Georgia Prestwidge.
Perth Scorchers got off to a rather poor start in the tournament, losing their only game to Melbourne Renegades. The loss has left them languishing at the second spot from the bottom on the ladder and they'll be desperate for a win here on Saturday.
In their previous match, they failed to get off to a start they were looking for and were eventually restricted for a total of just 132 for the loss of five wickets. Their bowlers toiled hard to defend that total but eventually gave it in in the last over. Renegades won the match with four wickets in hand and five balls to spare.
Perth Scorchers have a decent lineup on paper. They have the services of star players in Meg Lanning, Amy Jones, and Natalie Sciver and those three are likely to play a key role in the upcoming fixture as well. Their bowling is a bit light on experience, but if their batsmen can do well, they certainly have the bowling to put the opposition under the pump.
Amy Ellen Jones, Georgia Redmayne, Meg Lanning, Nicole Bolton, Chloe Piparo, Natalie Sciver, Heather Graham, Kim Garth, Piepa Cleary, Emma King, Jemma Barsby.
This tournament has already produced some extraordinarily close games and with the form both the sides are in, we can expect yet another thrilling encounter. Perth Scorchers lost their previous match, but they have one of the best top-order in the tournament. Brisbane Heat, on the other hand, are coming off a stupendous win followed by a narrow loss in their last two matches. With the confidence of a win behind them and a better-balanced team, at least on paper, we think that the Heat are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
