BHW vs SYDW Match Prediction - Oct 13, 2022

The WBBL is back and better than ever! The Perth Scorchers have enjoyed their championship from last season long enough, and now it’s time for the title battle to start once again.

The first match to kick off the new Women’s Big Bash League will be the Brisbane Heat hosting the Sydney Sixers in an evening game under floodlights.

Both teams have each won two championships and continue to roll out fantastic squads, so the pressure is on to see which squad starts the season with a victory.

BHW vs SYDW Team Previews

Brisbane Heat Women

Brisbane hasn’t been idle during the cricket off-season, as the Heat added English superstar top-order batter, Danni Wyatt, to their roster.

In 135 T20 matches, Wyatt has knocked up an impressive 2,159 runs (including two 100s) and has a batting average of 20.96. Wyatt’s form is inconsistent at times, but she’s a big name for the WBBL and her experience and talent are a huge draw for Heat fans.

Brisbane’s roster also includes Indian all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar to add some much-needed pace bowling and lower-order batting, as well as all-rounder Amelia Kerr.

Although Georgia Prestwidge has left the side, there’s a lot of buzz about teenage leg-spinner, Grace Parsons, who will add a lot of variety to the bowling attack.

Much of the roster is the same, otherwise, which is only a good thing as this Heat team is always a title contender.

Brisbane Heat Women Playing 11

Grace Harris, Georgia Redmayne, Georgia Voll, Amelia Kerr, Laura Kimmince Harris, Charli Knott, Jess Jonassen, Mikayla Hinkley, Nicola Hancock, Courtney Sippel, Jess Kerr.

Sydney Sixers Women

If the signing of Wyatt was huge for Brisbane, then Sydney is not to be outdone, either! The Sixers have signed one of the world’s best T20I bowlers from England, Sophie Ecclestone.

A left-arm spinner with a penchant for taking wickets using a vast range of attacks, Ecclestone will immediately become a threat whenever her bowling overs start. In 61 T20s, she has picked up 82 wickets and given up 1,340 runs, with a bowling average of 16.34.

The Sixers haven’t enjoyed a lot of success in the most recent seasons, as they’ve finished outside of the finals three years in a row. Still, with Ecclestone and new additions like Suzie Bates and Ellyse Perry joining the hugely experienced Alyssa Healy on the roster, then there’s certainly a lot to be excited about for Sixers supporters.

While it’s a shame that Emma Hughes will miss the entire season due to injury, and Hayley Silver-Holmes has switched to the Hurricanes, there’s still a wealth of talent on the roster for a championship run.

Alyssa Healy, Suzie Bates, Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Nicole Bolton, Sophie Ecclestone, Maitlan Brown, Angelina Genford, Lauren Cheatle, Kate Peterson.

BHW vs SYDW Toss Prediction

This is a good batters’ pitch, any team winning the toss will want to bat first and try to reach a big total before any more cracks appear (useful for bowlers later).

Pitch and Conditions

Although the Harrup Park pitch is not internationally famous by any means, it’s still a lively one with plenty of bounce. The weather in South Mackay is expected to be hot, likely around 26°C, which should dry the pitch up even more.

BHW vs SYDW Betting Tips

Despite some solid additions to the Sixers roster, we can’t be sure how it will look until we see a few matches. That’s why we’re positive that the Heat will pick up the first win of the season on the back of players like Wyatt, Kerr, and Pooja Vastrakar.

The Sixers will put up a good fight, but this one belongs to the Heat in their home state.

Bet on Brisbane to win.
