It's just about the time in the Women's Big Bash League when we are beginning to see some real segregation between the top half and the bottom half of the points table. Sydney Thunder seem to be running away at the top of the table and Brisbane Heat are striving hard to get out of the pit they have dug for themselves by a string of poor performances. With not many matches to go, Brisbane Heat have no option but to give it their all if they have to defend their crown. Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder are all set to go against each other on 11th November at Blacktown International Sportspark, Sydney.
It wasn't really expected that Brisbane Heat, the defending champions, will put up the kind of performance that they have. They started off considerably well as they posted a superb win over the Scorchers, but have since then looked only a shadow of themselves. As it stands, they are still with one win to their name and are, therefore, placed at the second spot from the bottom.
While Brisbane Heat have lacked consistency, there have been some moments of brilliance from them. However, they have been too far too few. Grace Harris has looked in terrific touch so far and his three fifties is evidence enough. With the ball, Jess Jonassen has been brilliant and has bagged eight wickets thus far.
In totality, however, Brisbane Heat have lacked consistency and contribution from the team. Barring from Grace Harris, there haven't been too many contributions from their other players. They are still struggling to find an appropriate replacement for Beth Mooney. Even though they have Amelia Kerr and Maddy Green, the contributions from the Kiwi pair hasn't really been enough thus far. On paper, Brisbane Heat have a decent team and if they can play to their potential, they can prove to be a force to reckon with.
Grace Harris, Georgia Redmayne, Jess Jonassen, Georgia Voll, Maddy Green, Amelia Kerr, Laura Harris, Charli Knott, Nadine de Klerk, Georgia Prestwidge, Courtney Sippel.
Sydney Thunder came into the tournament having a reputation of being fearless and they've lived up to the expectations so far. They've been aggressive and fearless in their approach, which seems to be working quite well for their side. Up until now, they've lost only once and are looking well set to get into the next round. Thanks to their decent net run-rate, they are placed at the second spot on the ladder and will be looking to grab another couple of points to jump to the top spot.
The primary reason for Sydney Thunder's spectacular performance thus far is the performance of Heather Knight, who has been excellent thus far - with the bat as well as the ball. Apart from her, Sam Bates has been outstanding, picking up ten wickets at an extremely low economy rate of 3.82. In addition to the duo, we have seen glorious glimpses from Rachel Haynes and Sammy Jo Johnson, who both could be dangerous to deal with on their day.
Perhaps the only thing that doesn't seem to be working for them is their combination. Phoebe Litchfield is still to find the perfect batting position for her and Tammy Beaumont form hasn't helped either. Other than that, Sydney Thunder have already been good and any improvement hereon will only make things difficult for their opponents.
Tammy Beaumont, Rachel Trenaman, Sammy Jo Johnson, Heather Knight, Rachael Haynes, Phoebe Litchfield, Lauren Smith, Tahlia Wilson, Hannah Darlington, Shabnim Ismail, Sam Bates.

The two teams are placed almost at the opposite ends of the points table. While Thunder will want to run away with the momentum, Heat will want to reduce the gap and inch closer to the top-four. This match is of massive importance for Brisbane Heat and they are likely to come out all guns blazing. Having said that, Thunder have the momentum and are playing exceedingly well. For that reason, betting on a Thunder win should be the way to go.
