BHW vs SYTW Match Prediction - Oct 25, 2022

The Brisbane Heat have two of the WBBL’s top run scorers with Georgia Redmayne (183) and Georgia Voll (124), not to mention a fierce bowler like Amelia Kerr in the lineup, but is the team worried about the Thunder?

Sydney picked up a massive 25-run victory over the Perth Scorchers thanks largely to Tammy Beaumont’s incredible 77 runs. It looked like the Thunder could have kept up the roll against the Stars, but unfortunately the match was abandoned due to rain.

This matchup could be a fascinating insight into how both teams are performing now that we’re getting midway into the season.

BHW vs SYTW Team Previews

Brisbane Heat Women

The Heat are absolutely surging at the moment with three victories in a row, however, these have all come against struggling teams like the Renegades and Stars, so how will they fare against other squads?

Brisbane’s Georgia Redmayne is currently the league leader in runs, but this is primarily due to her 98* against the Renegades. Her last match was a poor effort with only three runs, so can she make a steady flow of runs to ensure she keeps the top spot?

One thing is for sure: The Heat are not without batters, as Redmayne, Voll, Grace Harris, and even Amelia Kerr are capable of putting up fantastic numbers at any point in the order.

Kerr is no slouch with the ball, as she’s rapidly turning into one of the best young allrounders in the league by going 3/26 and 2/27 in her last two matches.

Sydney Thunder Women

The Thunder may have had a poor start to the season with three losses in a row, but the convincing win over the Scorchers really catapulted the team to new heights. For once, victory wasn’t a given when playing the Thunder and teams must take care when facing this tough squad.

Captain Rachel Haynes is rounding into form after a slow start to her 2022 season, especially after picking up 28 runs in the win over Perth. Her captaincy has been questioned at times, but we still think she’s got enough experience and talent to keep the role.

We were hoping to see what kind of Thunder team came out against the Stars, and for a while it was looking like Sydney would get a convincing win, but rain disrupted the match and eventually it was cancelled.

One of the most intriguing bowlers to keep an eye on for Sydney is spinner Lauren Smith. Her bowling stats before the Perth game were nothing to shout about, but she came out of nowhere to take 5/17 against the Scorchers and really help turn the tide in the match. If she manages to come close to this number again, then opposing batters will start to notice.

BHW vs SYTW Toss Prediction

The Thunder will want to bat first if winning the toss as they win more often this way.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Allan Border Field is often balanced and it’s not unusual for scores to go into the high 150s in a T20 match.

BHW vs SYTW Betting Tips

The Heat are no team’s idea of a fun time, as superb batting and bowling make them a fearsome challenger for any match. However, the Thunder have something special about them right now and it’s not impossible that they’ll defeat Brisbane.

If the Thunders’ Beaumont and Haynes each play it cool and deliver timely, well-placed shots that find the gaps, then the Thunder are bound to hit their average of around 130 runs against the Heat.

As of now, the teams are tied at 8-8 regarding wins, but the Thunder are 6-3 when batting first, so expect them to keep this up if they win the toss.

Bet on the Thunder to win.
