About the Match
The Bulls registered a thumping win against Rockstars by 68 runs to gain 7 points in their kitty and come to the 3rd position on the table; they will take on Bellary, who defeated Panthers by 5 wickets to accumulate 6 points and positioned in the 4th place, on 29th September at Hubballi. While this was the second straight victory for the Bulls, Bellary has won the last three games and will be eager to continue with its winning momentum. It needs to be seen which side can keep a cool head above its shoulders and come right on top on Thursday.
Top-order batsman Naveen scored a superb 52 off 33 to build a strong foundation for the team against Rockstars; along with Chipli, who scored 32, he took the total to a competitive 175 runs. Khadir used his googly to take 3-18 and helped stifle the opposition while other spinners like Arshdeep Singh, Cariappa and Samarth took 4 wickets between them to help win the match 68 runs. Pacers Farooqi and Mithun add depth to the attack while Uthappa, and Naveen bring variety.
In the match against Shivamogga too, the batsmen came out with all their firepower to score a gigantic 159 runs in 13 overs thanks to a splendid 67 off 37 knock by Uthappa. Opener Samarth contributed well with a half-century from 25 deliveries while Arshdeep Singh and Mithun kept the scoreboard ticking. Mithun’s fierce 3-2 in 2 overs knocked off the opponent’s top-order while Farooqi and Kiran took a wicket each to help win the match by 65 runs through the VJD method.
The team has performed very well in recent outings and can be a formidable force to reckon with considering the in-form batting line-up and a varied bowling attack that’s consistently taking wickets.
The speedsters combined well against Panthers and restricted them to 138 runs fielding first in the last match; pacer Akhil was the most economical with his 2-19 while Jain demolished the opponent’s middle-order by taking 3-33. Prasidh Krishna also has been regularly taking wickets and his 2 vital scalps gave them the required breakthroughs that helped them stifle the Panthers. The in-form opener Kadam posted a brilliant 53 off 36 to start the chase in a strong fashion; Amit Verma and Chiranjeevi then kept the runs flowing to reach the target of 129 from 18 overs.
Against Mangalore, the match was reduced to just a 7-over affair but the bowlers kept their tempo up to knock down wickets at regular pace; Anil took 2 wickets in an over while Prasidh Krishna took 2 wickets in the first and last over. Jain and Verma joined in to provide a scalp each and they restricted the opponents to a meagre 48, which Amit Verma and Kadam achieved without a sweat.
Their recent win has surely boosted their morale and they will be geared up to face the reigning champions on Thursday; the batting line-up has done well to build steady partnerships whether setting targets or during chase and they can repeat their heroics yet again.
While Bellary will draw inspiration from its three straight victories and try to emulate the winning performance again, we feel that the Bulls who have a stronger batting unit are better placed to win here
