About the Match
Mangalore won its last game against Rockstars by a huge margin of 53 runs and has catapulted to the 2nd position on the table with 2 points; they will take on Bijapur Bulls, who defeated Hubli Tigers by 7 wickets to garner 2 points, on 21st September at Hubballi. While Mangalore defended 195 runs with ease against Rockstars, the Bulls chased down 189 runs successfully with 2 balls to spare. Both teams have performed well in their recent matches and will be eager to continue winning here.
Opener Ravikumar Samarth posted an unbeaten 87 off 54 to steer the team towards victory against Hubli; he was well-supported by captain Robin Uthappa, who scored a well-made half-century from just 33 deliveries, and Naveen who played a useful knock scoring 20 runs. Earlier, the bowlers took regular wickets but couldn’t stop the hard-hitting Tigers from posting a challenging total.
While medium pacers Mithun and Naveen were successful to take 2 scalps each, spinner Khadir dismissed two batsmen to stifle the opponents. Others like Shekavat and Farooqi managed to slow down the run-flow but some of them proved to be too expensive. In their opening match against Panthers too, it was the spinners who provided regular breakthroughs but they couldn’t defend the low total of 137 runs, losing the match by 5 wickets.
Overall, the victory has surely boosted their morale and they can try to strategize well against Mangalore in order to push their campaign forward.
Nishanth Shekhawat posted a brilliant 106 off just 61 that consisted of 5 powerful sixes and 8 boundaries, taking the team to a gigantic 195 runs batting first; Shishir Bhavane and Harsha Basavraj helped keep the scoreboard ticking while the bowlers put up a good show in restricting Rockstars to 142 and helping to win the game by a massive margin of 53 runs.
Bowlers Ronit More and Bhareth took 2 wickets each in quick succession to topple the Rockstars’ top-order while spinner Mitrakanth Yadav put up an economical spell and also took 2 wickets, contributing in the win. In the opening game against Mysuru, the batting line-up had collapsed like a pack of cards, and they were able to muster only 148 on board. The bowlers managed to dismiss three opponents but found it difficult to win the match.
They have a strong batting unit with players like CM Gautam and Nidesh, who scored 64 and 54 runs respectively against Mysuru, the in-form Shekhawat, Basavraj and Bhavane, who can stabilize the innings with their skills. The bowlers too have been consistent in taking wickets and they can definitely try to post a stiff challenge to the Bulls here on Wednesday.
Both teams have won one game each and will try to increase the points in their kitty with a win here; however, we feel that Bijapur Bull with its batting power and a good mix of spin and pace coupled with experience of Abhimanyu Mithun and Robin Uthappa, is better placed to win this round
