BR vs GAW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Sep 01, 2018

The Barbados Tridents find themselves at the bottom of the table after a series of poor batting performances. For a team that is blessed with so much batting talent and has been playing at home recently, these results are unacceptable. They will be taking on the Guyana Amazon Warriors, a side that had done much better in the tournament will be hoping to win this match and move up to the top of the table.

This has been one of the most unpredictable seasons of the Caribbean Premier League and most of the teams are still in with a shout of reaching the knockouts.

BR vs GAW Team Previews

Barbados Royals

Three losses in succession at their home ground have left the Tridents struggling for survival in this tournament. They need to get their act together immediately. The batting has been very problematic for the Barbados Tridents.

Even the presence of players like Amla, Guptill, Hope, Steve Smith, and Jason Holder has not been enough for the side to get a good score on the board consistently. Martin Guptill scored an impressive 73 in the last game but none of the other top-6 got into double figures.

Hashim Amla just has a total of 32 runs in three innings, while Guptill has a total of 99 in five. This means that the openers are not getting the Tridents off to good starts. Hashim Amla’s stretch of poor form has now extended across formats for a long time. Serious questions need to be asked whether he is still the player he once was.

It will be interesting to see if the team persists with the same playing eleven or tinkers with the opening combination.

Steve Smith, Shai Hope, and Jason Holder have all played one good inning but they don’t seem to be able to do in tandem. The Tridents have been shuffling their middle order around and that has probably not helped things either.

The Tridents batting is going to be up against a tough opponent in the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Their bowlers will exploit any weaknesses that the Tridents show. Steve Smith, one of the best players in the world of spin bowling, is someone to watch out for against Imran Tahir and company.

Mohamad Irfan, Wahab Riaz, Jason Holder, Ashley Nurse, and even Steve Smith off late have been bowling quite well. The bowling should be able to put the Warriors under pressure but they need help from the batting.

Guyana Amazon Warriors

The Guyana Amazon Warriors are just one win away from the table leaders and have two games in hand. They would be confident of making that jump in this match and are in pretty good form. They won their last match against the Patriots off the last ball and now have two wins in their last three games.

It is easy to look at the stats and recognize that the Guyana Amazon Warriors have not been batting at their best. Only Shimron Hetmyer and Shoaib Malik have scored fifties in this tournament so far, a troubling sign. The other top-order batsmen have got off to some good starts but they have failed to make it count.

The Barbados Tridents may be struggling but they have the batting depth to really put a big score on the board.

Players like Chadwick Walton, Luke Ronchi, Jason Mohammad, and now Cameron Delport need to step up.

It took a nerveless inning from Sohail Tanvir for them to be able to win against the Patriots and that is not something that they want to be banking on too often. In Shoaib Malik, the Warriors have one of the most underrated T20 players in the world. He can be the lynchpin around which this batting revolves.

The bowlers cannot keep bailing out the Warriors every game.

It helps to have one of the best leg spinners in the shortest format of the game and the Guyana Amazon Warriors have definitely benefited from Imran Tahir’s presence. He has picked up 11 wickets so far, the most for his side, and is giving away runs at a rate of just 6.04 per over.

With excellent performances from Keemo Paul, Ryad Emrit, Sohail Tanvir, and Chris Green to back up Tahir, the Guayana Amazon Warriors have been one of the best bowling sides in the tournament.

Pitch and Conditions

Bridgetown, Barbados has thrown up some decent batting surfaces but the zip that was once associated with the place is missing. The best time to bat has been with the new ball and openers from both sides will play a very important role. Spinners have done well in matches here and we don’t expect that to change either.

A nice day with only a 10% chance of rain has been forecast for match day. The weather can change in the islands pretty quickly, though, so hopefully, there are no unpleasant surprises.

BR vs GAW Betting Tips

The Guyana Amazon Warriors team definitely has form on its side coming into this game. We, however, believe that the Tridents have the betting to be able to pull things back and pull off an upset.

Back the Barbados Tridents to win.
