BR vs SNP Match Prediction - Sep 29, 2019

St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots will be facing the Barbados tridents in their final game of the Caribbean Premier League 2019 group stage. The Patriots have won four out of their nine games so far and would love to finish with a win to guarantee their position in the CPL 2019 playoffs. They could qualify even after losing this match but would not like to leave the door open for the trailing teams.

The Barbados Tridents are coming into this match on the back of a solid victory against the Trinbago Knight Riders. It was a performance that made all the other teams sit up and take notice while also giving the Tridents a straightforward path to qualification.

Barbados Tridents vs St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots is going to be played at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados on the 28th of September 2019.

BR vs SNP Team Previews

Barbados Royals

The Barbados Tridents made an intriguing change to their batting order in the previous match. They demoted Alex Hales down the order and promoted Jonathan Carter. We think this move may have been made to try and lengthen the batting lineup while also giving Carter the license to play freely at the top.

The move certainly paid off against the Knight Riders as the opening stand of 110 laid down the perfect platform for Duminy who then smashed the fastest fifty in CPL history.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots have struggled with their bowling attack and a confident Tridents top-order could be in line for some big runs again.

Our concerns about the length of the Barbados Tridents batting still hold, though, because after Alex hales at 4, it is Ashley Nurse at 5 and an out of form Jason Holder at 6. These are at least two position two high for both these batsmen.

The bowling did very well in the previous match as having a big score to defend clearly helped. Hayden Walsh was the pick of the bowlers as he took five wickets in his four overs but JP Duminy also did well. The addition of Harry Gurney to the playing eleven is a very good one considering his expertise in the 20 over game.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

We have seen the Patriots play at their best when they are chasing a big total or are in a position where they have no option but to attack. Whenever they seem to slip into the tag of favorites or have time to think about the game, they seem to mess it up.

Evin Lewis is the prime example of this capacity to spoil things when there is enough time to win with ease. He has been in great batting form but has really excelled when he is up against the wall. Put him in a position where he is batting first or is chasing a par total and he seems to just forget what his natural strengths are.

The batting lineup of Evin Lewis, Mohammad Hafeez, Devon Thomas, and Fabian Allen is quite dangerous. Carlos Brathwaite has also shown what he is capable of, even though it is not realistic t expect him to come up with miracles every single time.

The Patriots do not have a batting lineup that we trust. When Evin Lewis does well, the batting seems to be strong but otherwise, it is dependent on some extremely aggressive innings from the middle order.

The Barbados Tridents have a decent bowling attack that can push the Patriots into a corner with some early wickets. The Patriots also have a problem with their own bowling.

Alzarri Joseph has been underwhelming in CPL 2019, Rayad Emrit disappointing, and Carlos Brathwaite ineffective. Mohammad Hafeez has become the lead bowler for the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, not something to be proud of for the side.

All facets of the Patriots game have to be on point if they are to win this important game against the Barbados Tridents.

Pitch and Conditions

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kensington_Oval

The Kensington Oval has been a relatively low scoring ground in CPL 2019. All the three matches at this ground have been won by the team batting first, which suggests that the pitch gets slower to bat on as the match progresses.

A score of about 160 should be considered par for the venue. A relatively good day has been forecast for match day in Bridgetown, Barbados. We should be able to get a full game in without any trouble.

We think that the Barbados Tridents should be able to win this game. Both teams have a weak batting lineup that is vulnerable to early wickets but home advantage and recent form should help the Tridents inch ahead.
